As Nepal’s representative, I must stress that our nation is among the most vulnerable to the impacts of global warming. Our unique geography—from the high Himalayan peaks to the low-lying Terai plains—means that climate change affects every aspect of our society and economy. Here are the key challenges and our proposed strategies:

Major Challenges

1. Extreme Weather Events and Flooding
Recent events, such as the catastrophic 2024 floods in Kathmandu and surrounding valleys, highlight how torrential monsoon rains, exacerbated by climate change, are leading to devastating floods, landslides, and loss of life. Unplanned urban development and inadequate drainage systems intensify these impacts (citeturn0news30, citeturn0news29).

2. Glacial Retreat and Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs)
The Himalayan glaciers are retreating at an alarming rate. This not only threatens water security but also increases the risk of sudden glacial lake outburst floods, which can have catastrophic downstream effects.

3. Impact on Agriculture and Food Security
Approximately 80% of our population depends on subsistence rain-fed agriculture. Erratic rainfall patterns, prolonged droughts, and flooding disrupt crop cycles, directly threatening livelihoods and food security (citeturn0search19).

4. Infrastructure Vulnerabilities
Urban centers like Kathmandu suffer from outdated and poorly planned infrastructure. Construction in flood-prone areas and a lack of robust drainage and stormwater systems exacerbate damage during extreme weather events.

5. Human Health and Social Impacts
Increased temperatures and altered weather patterns contribute to the spread of vector-borne diseases, heat stress, and respiratory problems. Vulnerable groups—such as women, children, and marginalized communities—are disproportionately affected.

Proposed Strategies

1. Strengthen Early Warning Systems and Disaster Preparedness
We plan to invest in advanced forecasting and community-based early warning systems for floods, landslides, and GLOFs. This includes better communication channels and training for local communities to respond promptly when hazards occur (citeturn0news30).

2. Improve Urban Planning and Infrastructure Resilience
Our government is committed to enforcing strict land-use regulations that prevent construction on floodplains and to upgrading our urban drainage systems. We will integrate both grey infrastructure (e.g., underground stormwater systems) and green solutions (e.g., wetland restoration) to mitigate flood risks (citeturn0news29).

3. Promote Climate-Smart Agriculture
By supporting farmers with improved irrigation techniques, drought-resistant crop varieties, and climate-resilient agricultural practices, we aim to safeguard food security and reduce vulnerability to weather extremes.

4. Expand Renewable Energy and Sustainable Resource Management
Nepal has significant hydropower potential. We are advancing renewable energy projects—including sustainable hydropower, solar, and wind—to reduce our carbon footprint and ensure energy security, while also diversifying our energy sources (citeturn0news25).

5. Protect and Restore Natural Ecosystems
Our forests and watersheds serve as vital natural buffers. We are enhancing conservation efforts to maintain these ecosystems, which are key to regulating water flow, sequestering carbon, and reducing soil erosion.

6. Empower Communities through Adaptation Plans
Expanding programs such as the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and Local Adaptation Plans of Action (LAPA) will empower local communities to design and implement context-specific adaptation strategies. Special emphasis will be placed on training, education, and financial support for the most vulnerable groups.

7. Foster International Cooperation and Climate Finance
We seek strengthened collaboration and increased access to international climate finance. By partnering with global institutions and donor agencies, Nepal aims to secure the necessary funding and technical expertise to implement these adaptation and mitigation measures effectively.

In Conclusion:
Global warming presents a multidimensional challenge for Nepal, affecting our environment, economy, and society. However, through a comprehensive, multi-sectoral strategy—combining improved disaster preparedness, sustainable urban planning, climate-smart agriculture, renewable energy investments, ecosystem conservation, and community empowerment—we are working to build a more resilient Nepal. Our commitment is to safeguard our people and natural heritage, ensuring a sustainable future despite the escalating impacts of climate change.

To address climate change, we should focus on promoting renewable energy, reducing carbon emissions, implementing sustainable agriculture, and protecting ecosystems. Additionally, improving waste management, encouraging eco-friendly transportation, and fostering global cooperation on climate policies are essential for long-term solutions.

As a country that emits approximately 1.3% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, Mexico's focus should not only be on reducing emissions, but above all, on adapting.

1. Accelerated Energy Transition

It is crucial to move away from dependence on oil and coal. The current 2024-2030 strategies aim to:

a) Incentivize electromobility in public transportation.

b)Increase power generation through solar and wind energy (taking advantage of the high potential of Sonora and Oaxaca).

2. Nature-Based Solutions

Reforestation and Conservation: Strengthen programs that protect mangroves and rainforests, which act as "carbon sinks" and natural barriers against hurricanes.

Sustainable Agriculture: Modernize irrigation in the fields to reduce water waste and use biofertilizers that do not emit nitrous oxide.

3. Adaptation and Resilience

Sponge Infrastructure: Design cities that can absorb rainwater to recharge aquifers and prevent flooding.

Climate Justice: Create emergency funds to protect the poorest populations, who are the least polluters but suffer the most damage.
