Hi everyone, I teach accounting in a secondary school and in my school information competences are taught in the first and second year working on the framework of Microsoft Office, in the third and four the student start to learn the basic of coding, what’s an algorithm or a database but they can apply this theory concepts only in some project that their teacher are sometimes involved in, creating app and digital product or making videos. In my discipline I have to spend some hours in the information laboratory where I use Office and a management program; I also employ for my pedagogical purpose Moodle and Dropbox

In a digital word like this the new skills are linked with an proactive use of computer so everyone could get involve with him. I think that the evolution of the hardware performance has been huge in the last decade but in the same time a few people know how coding; the result is an enormous capacity to processing waiting to be exploit. The discipline that I teach is related with digital literacy, my favorite setting is the information laboratory where I enhance, my student, ability to use word processor, Excel or Power Point to manage or to communicate their study research or information about economic data.

Like other teachers I use to spent some time in project related to my discipline, one activity that I have done in my latest class was to create a start up and simulate to manage it. In this way I was teaching to develop non-technical skills like: problem solving, collaborative team work, analytical and visual thinking, communicational skills, but it was quite hard arrange it by myself.

For the moment I have realized what CT is not, it isn’t make be able to manage Office or a Browser. I have also understand the different between engineer thinking and computational thinking but it get me same time to realize what CT is. The guide from CSTA help us thinking about the single topics but like teacher I think it will be a change of paradigm from analysis / synthesis vs/ decomposition, pattern recognition and algorithmic design, maybe?

What are you thinking about? Help!!!.
