"A greater power than we can contradict"

This quote is spoken by Friar Lawrence after the death of Romeo. The statement represents the Montague and Capulet's feud and the realisation that death is the result of the ongoing feud between their families. The language used in the line refers to a higher power than what the two families can control. Love which is subsequently the cause of both their deaths.

"O churl, drunk all, an left no friendly drop"

This exert from the play is spoken by Juliet, just before she dies. She refers to the poison that Romeo drank himself as 'friendly'. This contradicts the meaning of the word poison which is normally considered to be a deadly substance. Juliet welcomes and accepts death as she knows life on earth would be hell without Romeo and she will join him.

In this scene Benvolio is curious but at the same time protective
as a good cousin should be. This is shown when Benvolio questions
where Romeo is going and questioning the woman he is to meet and
says he is in love with. Benvolio's language is in a way condescending
and inquisitive when he is speaking to Romeo, although his lines are short
and friendly, the message is clear to Romeo. Romeo is a passionate character
who is on his way to meet his love, Rosaline, although he does not want to reveal anything about her. We can see this in the apprehensive language he uses and the way he speaks.

In this scene, the nurse has returned from Romeo with news that Juliet is desperate to hear. The nurse comes across as a more playful characters that is light hearted. She is an older lady and appears as though she likes to joke around with Juliet but avoiding her questions. Juliet on the other hand, it a more serious and genuine character who seems to want direct answers to her questions and to know what's going on. She is a younger character who is more to the point. The nurse could be recognised as the 'foil' to Juliet as her personality is the opposite to Juliet, as well as her appearance. This is recognised as specifically in act 2 scene 5, Juliet is constantly asking Nurse what Romeo said, but the Nurse is humourously responding with other questions, not relating to the topic at all.

In this scene, Romeo and Juliet are going to marry each other, as Friar is foreshadowing their death, and saying that they have to be careful about this love. "These violent delights have violent ends." This quote talks about foreshadowing their deaths. Basically, Shakespeare is saying that 'These sudden joys of love usually have sudden endings.' There love, later on, leads to the sudden deaths.
