Distance: Know your limits;how much do you want to work?, make sure you have energy for a round trip. Plan ahead for what trails you want to take.

Terrain: Know your surroundings: look at local guides, use GPS, and pictures for reference to know what kind of terrain (gravel/ loose rocks, sand, dirt, concrete, etc.) you will be biking on.

What to bring: Small bag to hold phone in case of emergency, small first aid kit, sunscreen, wallet and keys. Water bottle (if your bike has a bottle holder, otherwise put in the bag), small snack if you are going for a longer ride, extra inner tube incase of flat. And of course, A HELMET.

What to know: check weather before ride (don’t want to get stuck in rain or hot, hot sun!), make sure the trail is available, know the rules of the road, hand signals, be aware of other people around you as you bike.
