This semester I have earned a 92% overall so far. I believe I'm deserving of this grade if not more. I have worked hard on my grade and was able to maintain an A in the class throughout the whole year. I turned in most assignments on time despite having challenging classes and other commitments outside this class. I deserve to keep the A I have worked hard to maintain throughout the year.

This year I learned many new techniques and how I should implement them into my writing. For example, I learned how to use ethos, pathos and logos in an argument. I used these techniques when arguing on what was the best policy that should be implemented to solve the California housing crisis. My argument was centered around logos and ethos (logic and expertise) I used studies done by credible sources to prove that policies allowing for the development of multifamily dwellings was the best option to solve our problems. Although my argument obviously wasn’t perfect, I asked for serious feedback to help me improve my writing, and I learned that to really connect with an audience I should use more pathos. I will really take this feedback seriously in the future. I deserve to keep my A because I have demonstrated that I am always trying to find new ways to improve and use the techniques that I learned in class in my writing. I am mostly happy with the way my debate went, I’d like to think most of my groups errors were due to nerves, however I understand the mistakes I made while preparing and hope to improve them in the future.

This year I also learned how to use figurative language to make my writing more vivid and engaging. I used these techniques when I wrote poems on ny dreams and what they mean to me. I’m my poem titled Watching I suggested that our dreams reflect where we are from and our experiences. I used figurative language to describe my dreams of becoming a pediatric surgeon, I wrote, “ The clatter off surgical instruments, loud beeping of the machines, the intolerant fluorescent lights blinding me,” to describe the sounds and settings a surgeon would hear when performing a surgery. I used vivid imagery to show my dreams allure and draw my readers into my desired future. I skillfully used imagery rather than normal language that is boring as heck. I was able to use what I learned in class to make a piece of writing that transported the reader into my desired future and I hopes to use my writing to connect with others. I deserve to keep my A because I was able to use techniques to really connect with the readers of my peom.

Star Test Scores

This year my star test scores have all meet or surpassed grade level with my current score being at 11.7 , and have shown a pattern of growth from the beginning of the school year. The star test, in my opinion isn’t a completely accurate measurement of one’s reading capabilities. However they can, to some capacity, demonstrate the readers of ability to use context clues and put root words together to make sense of writing that you might not understand, a skill which I find very important. My growth in my Star reading scores demonstrate that I do have the skills needed to maintain to maintain an A in this class.

This year I have read a variety of books, some comfort books, that I can’t seem to stop coming back too, and other new books that I highly enjoyed. My reading list this year consisted of: All 7 Harry Potter books (reread of course), the Twilight saga+ Midnight Sun, American Royals and tThe Song of Achilles. Although I do agree that I need to venture out more and read the many books that I’ve bought and haven’t read yet. I did read a good variety of books from different time periods, places, perspectives and writing styles. I was also able to do various assignments that demonstrate my understanding of all of the books I read. I’ve been consistent with my reading which deserves an A because consistency is one of the main components in eating an A in a class.

I scored their arguments solely based on their argument performance, not basing my votes on whether or not one of the participants was my friend. I not only care about my experience in this class but also those of my peers, demonstrating my honesty and integrity in class.

Speaking

This year I completed various assignments that required me to speak in front of an audience or pre-record for listeners. In my argument on allowing multi-family dwellings I spoke in front of my classmates and I attempted to speak in a calm and professional manner. Although I know I made some mistakes with pacing and stumbling, I was able to speak professionally and properly contain myself when I made a mistake. This reflects my growth as a speaker as I know I can make mistakes but I accept this fact and will work towards improvements. I also recorded several podcast episodes with my book club on ¨The Song of Achilles¨ by Madeline Miller. In this podcast I talked in a causal manner to keep the listeners entertained while still implementing some professionalism in what I said and the way I spoke. I demonstrated that I was able to implement different elements into my podcast while talking about my book which is deserving of an A.
