Health lessons will begin in Science classes on April 29, 2024. If you wish to opt your child out of any of the applicable opt out lessons, please email your child's Science teacher no later than March 29, 2024. We will not be able to process opt out requests after March 29th as we will need time to prepare for student locations and substitutes for opt out students. Thank you for reviewing the lessons ASAP on the district website and letting your teacher know any opt out requests by March 29th.

All visitors or parents who come onto the Horner campus must check in at the office.

To ensure the safety of students and staff and to avoid potential disruptions, all visitors shall check in or

sign in at the office immediately upon entering the school building or grounds. A visitor’s badge shall

be worn at all times while on campus.

Visits to the school and/or classroom at the request of the parent/guardian shall be arranged through

the student’s teacher and/or principal. Classroom visits or conferences will be scheduled within a

reasonable time of the parent/guardian request. Except for law enforcement personnel, only the

parent/guardian or those designated on the student’s emergency card are permitted to contact or take

your student from school. (BP/AR 1250)

Respect for the Learning Environment: Fremont Unified is committed to providing a positive learning

environment for our students and staff. While on campus please keep a positive attitude and be an encouraging role model for our students. During your visit please refrain from any aggressive behavior.

Examples of aggressive behavior include but are not limited to:

● Abusive language

● Physical assault

● Verbal Harassment

● Sexual language

● Threats

Individuals who refuse to follow our positive expectations may be asked to leave.

It is almost Election Season (for next year’s leadership class). ASB is hosting an informational meeting on Tuesday 1/9 at lunch. Your students can run for class president, vice president and treasurer. This is only open for current 6th and 7th grade students. Please encourage your student to come and learn more about this process! 

Our 3rd social is taking place on February 16th. Stay tuned for more info but tickets will be sold for three days that week. They will cost 10 dollars. Hope to see you all there! 

Last thing is have you noticed your students dressing up in crazy clothes or making you go to the store to buy more clothes? Well ASB has spirit days throughout the year. When students dress up, they scan scanned for spirit points. (They also could have donated cans to our canned food drive). It is time to cash those spirit points in. Towards the end of January students can come and cash those points in for prizes. We do our best but obviously some items sell out quickly. Your student can also save up those points when we host our second semester spirit points. Totally up to them! See you all there!

I hope everyone had an excellent winter break and are ready to return to school as we embark on the second semester of the 2024 school year. I trust that the holiday season brought joy and relaxation to you and your families.

As we re-enter the academic routine, I want to take a moment to express my sincere excitement for the opportunities that lie ahead. The second semester is a time of fresh beginnings, renewed focus, and continued growth for our students. I am eager to work collaboratively with each of you to support your children in their academic, social/emotional, and developmental journey through middle school.

Our collective goal is to create an environment that fosters the holistic development of every student. Academic achievement is just one aspect of this growth, and we understand the importance of addressing the social, emotional, and developmental needs of our students as well. By working together, we can ensure that your child receives comprehensive support that extends beyond the classroom.

Building positive relationships between our staff and parents is paramount to creating a positive school culture. We value the partnership between home and school, recognizing that a strong collaboration enhances the overall educational experience for our students. Open lines of communication enable us to better understand your child's individual needs, strengths, and areas for growth. Together, we can create a supportive network that promotes a positive and inclusive learning environment.

I encourage you to actively engage with your child's education by attending and participating in school events, and communicating with teachers and staff as the  needs arise. We will be having 3 new after school programs for students to participate in on a first come/first served basis.

Every school in California will be receiving PROP 28 funds to increase our Visual and Performing Arts programs at all schools. Each school site will determine what offerings that relate to the VAPA standards they will offer either before school, after school or during the school day.

Horner is pleased to announce (waiting FUSD Board approval in January) three new VAPA offerings after school. Those programs are:

• 6th grade band (for those current 6th grade students who already have experience playing an intrument)

• Art enrichment classes offered to all students in grades 6-8. There will be two different after school art programs and you will be receiving more information as the month progresses.

For the after school programs a Google document will be sent to current students for parents to fill out if they are interested in joining this program. All programs are FREE to students and if capacity exceeds the set amount of students we can take, we will engage in a lottery system for each program. Our estimated dates for these programs will be February 26 - April 30th.

Please be on the lookout for the board approval of these programs and for the Google forms that will be sent to families for sign ups.

Creating a successful school culture is important to everyone at Horner and promoting successful behavior with students is paramount.

On January 12th the AP's will be coming into PE classes to review with all students the school's rules, code of conduct expectations and strategies for success at Horner. Please take time to speak to your child when they come home on Friday to discuss with them what was reviewed. We have included some reminders below so that you can help us remind students about the Horner expectations and what it means to be a Hornet.
