In this class I worked on:
- Creating the Padlet
- Choosing the apps
- Downloading them
- Testing mechanics
I used many websites to go over the best apps that I could use they had to be free and available in my Ipad. After that I decided to download them and I looked into a few of the basked mechanics of it. I also created the Padlet and did this first post. These were the four websites I decide to investigate further.
-FlipaClip
-Animation Desk
-Stop Motion

Today I started by doing a simple animation excercise that helped me with two things:
-Learning how to use Flipa Clip
- Learning the principle of squashing and Stretching
For squash and stretch you can see very clearly that as the ball goes down the ball starts stretching and when going to the ground it goes squash before coming back up. Although this isn’t perfect its a good start for applying this concept.
I also learned how to use Flipa Clip. In this case I learned how to use the ruler, the pens and coloring, layers, and copying and working with frames.
- I had first a sketch layer
            - Here I sketched to test how many frames and how would it work
- I then did a black outline
             - I did this to get a better grasp of the layers and to have an idea on how clean it would look
- I then colored
- I colored to get one a better understanding of layers and two to understand brushes and filling out as well as color palet. I redid the outline as well as now filling it in.

I made sure to include all of my information in both of my pages as to complete this first part of my Notebook. I then opened a video lesson on the 12 principles of animation. I was able to watch the three First videos:

Squashing and Stretching

Anticipation

Staging.

I took notes of the video on another app. Photos are linked in the other posts for the 26th.

For October 30th it was a rather slow day of progress.

I mostly worked on doing notes for the fourth and fifth principles.

The fourth principle is Pose to Pose vs. Straight Ahead animation.

Pose to Pose animation basically states that you draw first the beginning and the end of your animation, a skeleton its especially good for actions because then you know where you’ll end up. Straight ahead is when you keep drawing one after the other, it is especially good for animating some predictably unpredictable stuff such as fire.

The fifth principle is followthrough and overlapping action. It’s about animating body parts and understanding some parts continue moving after the main action has halted. This is really useful to also understanding how to animate this as the apnedadage of the body part has to be the last to move. Important vocab also include drag.

This was a day of a lot of just theory since these were very important aspects of understanding animation.

I continued working on the theory being video 6 and 7:

6th principle: Slow in and slow out

States that all movement begins slow gets fast and ends slow. This is important so that actions are realistic and NOT mechanical. It helps with timing. To do it you need more frames in the beginning and less during the middle;

MORE FRAMES=slow

LESS FRAMES= fast

7th principle: Arcs

Every living thing in movement moves in arcs although very slightly they are always present. Even just by walking your body is moving a bit forward forming an arc never just up and down, this helps create a dynamic and realistic animation since only robots are moving up and down.

Notebook: I also used this time to work on my notebook more especifically the design page. The design page was still very up in the air for me and this was the time to sit a decide. It took me a while I knew that making one animation would be too much and I also knew making 12 was overwhelming so I focused on the concepts I already knew, the first five. It was hard deciding because I wanted to do so much but I can’t.

I studied more about the next principles:

8th Principle: Secondary action

these actions are the actions that directly support the main action so basically the main action is what is primarily happening while the others support this. If the character is sadly turning their heads add a tear

9th Principle: Timing

Timing is hard. Basically if you mess it up everything can mean something else. Ducking slowly means your sad but if its fast your dodging something. If you mess it up by even a frame it will have a completely different meaning.

To end all of the research(although it never really ends)

10th principle:

Exaggeration can make evertything more real. This dosent mean that you make something so real it looks like real life but instead that you exegarate the actions so much they feel genuine. The only way tho know if its too much exaggeration is after pushing it to the absolute maximum.

11th principle: Solid Drawing

Even in 2d animation things have to be 3D. Animators must use basic 3D shapes instead of 2d so that characters feel real and dimensional. They have to have weight and balance or else they look flat

12th principle: appeal

Animation must be appealing it must interest the reader. You have to make your characters be dynamic and pop out looking different from the rest. All this is important to your animation.

This was a tough day:

I had to

Make a skeleton for the walking animation

Fill it out

Go over

I had no study hall or time to finish it up at NR so I had to do it in the plane and as soon as I landed. In the plane I spent the whole time working on doing the base drawings making sure that the skeleton at least were all done. I knew that I would struggle quite a lot with the inbetweens in this so I wanted a skeleton as soon as possible. Like a second had passed the flight was over. Skeleton done. Arrived home and back to work on the in between. I was right they took me 3hrs, and I still had to go over it( I would only do that in the morning though as I was beyond exhausted.)

On November 16th I was back from NR and it was the last day, a hard day. I wrapped up my final animations and wrapped up all the concepts I wanted to highlight I then proceeded to do the concept explanation writing basic scripts I barely knew because I already knew so much about the topic. I recorded and quickly whisked up a video, to showcase my final work.

I liked it it felt very rustic and basic but authentic in the end it all worked out and I was happy to be over with it.
