Concentration Statement

My concentration portrays the ethnicity of people and where they are from. I tend to capture their culture through portraits. Also, I tend to illustrate how they feel and what they admire the most.

Pakistani

For my fourth concentration, I depicted a girl from Pakistan. She is wearing Shalvar Kamiz and is wearing a duputta that's on her head. Her face expression portrays that she's proud of being Pakistani.

Guatemalan Food

For my third concentration, I depicted Guatemalan boy inheriting his culture by eating food from Guatemala. I focused it on the food while having his smile in the background to show how much he enjoys it.

Bengali

For my first concentration, I depicted a girl that is actually half Bengali. She is wearing a sari that has the color green and orange. The black background creates contrast in her and the sari. The color green also symbolizes part of their flag.

Peruvian Dancing

For my second concentration, I illustrated a Peruvian girl dressed up for a dance called Marinera. This photo is a close up shot. The flower in her hair and the side braid conveys that, that is what she looks like when she's ready to dance.

African

For my sixth concentration, I depicted a boy from Africa. He is wearing an African shirt that his mother bought him from Africa. He also has white and green African tribal patterns on his face to inherit his family background.

My tenth concentration is a girl who is from Mexico. I expressed her love for not only music, but for mariachi through the use of musical instruments and her outfit. I also incorporated the use of Mexican colors.

Papuan

My eighth concentration is a girl from Papua New Guinea. I illustrated her admiring the print that is on her body. These prints are used to symbolize initiation of womanhood. The green leaves and white flowers on her shirt conveys the area is she from.

Indian

For my fifth concentration, I depicted a girl from India. She is wearing a bindi and also bangles on her wrist. I wanted to express the way they have different accessories that are important to their culture.

Chinese

For my seventh concentration, I depicted a Chinese girl. Instead of trying to show her what item she loves about her ethnicity /culture, I expressed her facial features. I wanted to convey that everyone looks different and you should be proud of what you look like.
