During the time of the Aztecs, cocoa was mainly used as a beverage. Both the Maya and the Aztecs secular drinks used roasted cocoa beans. Cocoa was believed to be of divine origin: the cocoa tree was a bridge between earth and heaven. Human sacrifices to propitiate God or sun were first sanctified by giving him chocolate.

The builders first constructed an elevated causeway across the lake (light-colored section), using some sand, dirt, and rocks and held in place by large wood stakes. Also They were used for people to walk between the city and the shore. A raised aqueduct was then built on top of the Chapultepec causeway. This was probably built of stones and mud, held in place with more wood stakes.

Each ancient Aztec weapon was unique, used for a specific purpose. The maquahuitls were incredibly strong, and the Spanish claimed they could chop the head off a horse with one blow. They were sharp and the Aztecs knew how to use them. They could not thrust like a sword, and so they lent themselves to a different type of warfare.

Elite Aztec warriors were still using super-sharp obsidian blades on their weapons some 9,000 years after its earliest use.Mesoamericans perfected the technique of ‘prismatic blade production’, giving them knives, scrapers and weapon points with some of the sharpest edges known to modern science.

Many of the staples of the Aztec diet are still familiar in Mexico today - maize (corn), beans, avocados, squash, chilies, and tomatoes. The tomatoes used today are a different variety than were eaten before the arrival of the Europeans. The nopal cactus was and is used for food, in many dishes. Like for instance we all know that chili peppers play a big part in Mexican food. These and salt were so important to the peoples of central Mexico that special religious fasts involved avoiding them.

So the Aztec wandered around Mexico for about 200 years before they settled down in the Valley of Mexico. Other tribes were living in the area. Rather than start a war for a place to live, the Aztecs settled down peacefully (at first) in the swampy land around Lake Texcoco. they were also clever people they adapted to their environment. they built some canoes to fish and hunt

When the Aztec people finally found a place to settle down, they did so on rather marshy land around a lake. As the population grew, the Aztecs needed to find a way to grow more food. the clever Aztec engineers created “floating” gardens. The floating gardens were actually rafts. The rafts were anchored to the bottom of the lake, or to a strong tree in the marsh.
