This quote by Cecil Rhodes made me immensely upset and angry. I firmly believe imperialism is wrong and quite simply just disgusting, but this quote made me want to puke. They started describing the human race as superior, which sure--not what I would've picked but no matter--then they go beyond that and proclaim that the English people are specifically above the rest. Which means that if they ruled the entire world, we'd basically have an utopia.

"I contend that we are the finest": This quote intensified my view on imperialism. This quote speaks on how Cecil Rhodes believes in white supremacy and what imperialists are doing is right and just. This has just shown me how much more I believe in the cockiness of imperialists and how self centered they really are. This poem by David Diop made me strongly disagree with imperialism, the poem is by a slave who shared how "The White Man killed my father'..." seduced my mother '..." my brother was strong his hands were red with black blood." David shared how the man had killed his father and had done terrible things to his mother, and hurt his brother wounding him badly. And used him as a slave for their own benefit, just to have control.

People with color were seen horrible back then and suffered a lot during these times. Many of their homelands got taken, but the worse part for them was watching their family die between all of this. The author of this poem is trying to tell me and the reader that his family's life was thrown away just for whites to have their pieces of land and expand their territories. My idea of imperialism has shifted into seeing how it's not very good. From this quote, I can see that in a way, they see imperialism as a helpful way to the natives of the land they are invading by giving them many opportunities they wouldn't have. The natives never asked the imperialist to provide such "blessings" to them that could both hurt and help.

In Joseph's quote, he stated, "I maintain that our rule does, and has, brought security and peace and comparative prosperity to countries that never knew those blessings before". This quote shows how Joseph invaded the povertous country and found him in a position where he thinks he's doing good in helping the povertous country, but, he isn't because the native people never asked for it. That line showed me how bad people can be and trying to justify imperialism is just dumb.
