Killing uses John Tooby's idea of coalitional behavior to explain the nature, superiority complex each political tribe holds against each other, as Tooby mentions, "the individual mind will make it feel good to think and express content conforming to and flattering to one’s group’s shared beliefs, and feel good attacking and misrepresenting rival groups" (Tooby). Indulgence in this behavior allows one to captivate positivity in their beliefs by totally neglecting outsider thoughts, and by only signaling mutual agreements with fellow believers.

Kling uses a reference from Daniel Kahneman's book (thinking fast and slow) to explain the differentiating between fast and slow thinking in this political discourse scenario. He prompts slow thinking as effective that may allow individuals to draw meanigful insights about issue from different angles rather than being trapped by one single axes or angle for framing issues.

Slow political thinking may be a reasonable solution because people who fall under one of the three axes are subject to deliberately interpreting issues from a single viewing angle. However, the three-axes model isn't created with regard to an individual's belief, so it’s possible for these individuals to utilize this approach, as it's more about being open-minded about political issues rather than focusing on one’s political beliefs.
