Dr. Edmond Locard was a criminologist and forensic inventor who was born in Saint-Chamond, France on December 13, 1877. He passed away in Lyon, France on May 4, 1966 at the age of 89. He had a daughter, her name was Denise Stagnara who was born on November 18, 1917 in Paris.

Edmond Locard was the first to systematize fingerprint characteristics for identification of a person. He was also famous for his phrase, "Every contact leaves a trace". Edmond Locard's earliest case was the 1912 search for the Lyon Strangler, who was presumed guilty of strangling a woman named Marie Latelle to her early demise. During Edmond Locard studies into dactylography he claimed that if twelve points of differentiation could be found between two fingerprints, this would be enough to validate a match. After the death of Edmond Locard in 1966, everyone to present day says that he was the "Real life Sherlock Holmes of France". Another thing that Edmond Locard had done before he passed was establishing the science of poroscopy, which is to learn about the fingerprint pores and the impressions made by these pores.

A few other interesting facts about Edmond Locard is that "he developed an interest in the application of science to legal matters, writing his thesis on Legal Medicine under the Great King (La medecine legale sous le Grand Roy)". Also, in November 2012, he was proposed to be in the French Forensic Science Hall of Fame of the Association québécoise de criminalistique (quebec forensic science). His first forensic lab was actually the first forensic science lab in all of Europe because he persuaded the French PD (Police Department) to give him the necessary rooms and assistants. He considered medicine and law in Lyon, France, ultimately becoming second in command of Alexandre Lacassagne, a criminologist and professor. In addition, in 1902 Locard started his career in medicine, earning his doctoral degree.
