Positive points:
It will help in the improvement of teaching methodology. 
It will increase interactions between employees.
We would observe our colleague's class as well, which would help us to learn more.
It will help us to enhance confidence as well.
The peer observer should be clear about the academic environment and students' background.

Negative points:

Maybe the peer observer is facing the same problem.
Due to professional competition, he can exaggerate the feedback.
Observer could be more judgemental.
Sometime observer tries to behave like a boss and  tries to be professional dominent.
May tell your feedback to other colleagues as well and would make fun of you.
