Piracy is an act of basically criminal violence aboard another ship in coastal areas, with the goal of stealing cargo or many other valuable items. Piracy is done by a group of people called Pirates.

Narrow channels which funnel shipping into predictable routes have been creating opportunities for piracy, such as for commerce raiding.(A form of naval warfare that goes on ships and attacks its merchant shipping, rather than engaging in a fight with them. Piracy can also take place on land, like bandits and brigands.(Highway robbery or plunder.)They go about ambushing travellers, making them get injured or even die. Today, most pirates use small motorboats to travel in the water. They are armed with heavy automatic weapons and rocket propelled grenades. They take advantage on small amounts of crew members on cargo vessels. They also use larger vessels, "mother ships", to supply the smaller motorboats.
