Used to nominate members of the student's thesis committee. The entire form must be completed by the thesis chair and signed by the college dean before sending to GradForms@uttyler.edu for Graduate School Dean approval. Committee membership must be approved by the Dean of The Graduate School.

Write your introduction of thesis!

Try to get this started as soon as possible. Even if it isn't perfect, a rough draft is better than nothing. You want to aim to have this done by the end of your second semester!

Write method section of thesis!

As you continue to do research, write a rough draft of all the methods/techniques you are using for research. Do this as you go, it is never too early to get this done. Some may say this is the easier section to write!

Here is a link for the thesis format! Make sure you remember to use this before you start writing up anything. UT Tyler provides a template you can use in word which is in this link!

Revising/Editing Thesis and Submission

Give your enough time at least 3 weeks or more weeks to have your committee review and edit your full rough draft! They will take their time doing this and it is a stressful process. After you receive committee corrections (which will be a lot). Your PI will give you the approval that your thesis is finalized. Then you will send it as a .docx to "gradmanuscripts" (gradmanuscripts@uttyler.edu)

Then you follow any other directions from gradmanuscripts! Congrats, that hard work is done!

When to Schedule Your Defense

Try to schedule your thesis defense a few or more weeks before your manuscript is due! The making of your powerpoint is easier when you have some of your writing done in my opinion! (if you care)

For tips on how to create your powerpoint, ask your PI what they like and examples of their previous grad students as well!

What to expect!

During your defense you will give a presentation of your research! This is open to the public. Usually this last 30-45 mins with time for questions from the public. After public questions, everyone but your committee will leave! Then your committee will have the time to ask you more questions about your work! This is really scary and stressful, but it will be okay :) Then they will tell you to leave the room while they deliberate and decide if you met expectations.
