"Triggers" are widely understood, but few people know about their opposite: glimmers. Glimmers are small moments that spark joy or peace, which can help cue our nervous system to feel safe or calm. Experts say this mindset shift can make a positive impact on our mental health.


Having a tough school year can set you on the path of negativity. As we roll into this next year, I am embracing looking for Glimmers instead of allowing myself to dwell on Triggers.

One of the things I have enjoyed over the years is helping a person or family that is going through a tough time anytime of the year but doing it anonymously. They don't have to feel they owe you anything, you aren't expecting anything and there is no concern that others will be jealous and no concern that they may find you to be a crutch. It is just being there when someone needs help. Someone I know shared this facebook link with me about the way an unknown person explained to their child who Santa really was and the idea of why they have shared Santa with their child and it reminded me of the joy I get when I am Santa for someone any time of the year and how great it is that this person is teaching his child to give to others without expecting anything in return. How wonderful our world would be if everyone was willing to be "Santa" and not just at Christmas time. This weekend my nephew Alex is getting married. He asked me to make cut out Christmas cookies for us to decorate like we did when they were kids for the wedding. So of course, I said YES! I baked over 300 cookies and had the family over to help decorate. We had a lot of fun. Back in October, we got another puppy to add to the craziness. Daisy has been a great addition but has kept us busy with training. I look forward to finding some time to relax and just enjoy time with family.
