1) I think my virtual internship experience as an English teacher and lesson planner at Colegio Akua was extremely pleasant and informative. Beyond the classic skills I learned from engaging in a virtual internship such as improving on my communication skills, computer skills, and time management, I specifically learned how to adapt my original plans to fit different people's needs and how to properly engage in learning about other cultures!

2) I would advise other interns to communicate any issues or questions they have, even if they think they may seem less competent or get in trouble. A lot of other countries have more relaxed communication methods and internships are to learn so it is important to be vulnerable!

3) I would love to know about how those in Barcelona/Spain view those in other countries (since a lot of my students travelled a lot) and what cultural aspects are most important to Spaniards?

1.) My virtual internship experience has shown me the field of bioengineering research. I have learned to used matlab programming in a industry level platform and other programs related to bioengineering. I have enjoyed utilizing skills learned in classes at my internship. I have improved on my problem solving/troubleshooting skills as the matlab simulation has presented many errors along the way.

2.) One main piece of advice for future VIP interns is to ask for help whenever you are confused or stuck on something. Communicating with colleagues and supervisors is not that scary in reality and hopefully everyone you're working with is willing to help out.

3.) I would really like to know more in depth about Catalan versus Spanish culture, is it very different/what are some specific foods, traditions in Catalan culture?

Carolyn David

1) I have really enjoyed my virtual internship experience this summer. So far, I have learned a lot about what Ahead Analytics does and how my work fits into their operations. Specifically, I learned about all the factors that go into hosting a webinar, from defining the topic to selecting the audience to following up after the webinar. Over the last 3 weeks, I have been working on gathering data for companies in the food industry including revenue, CO2 emissions, plastic waste, etc. During this project, I have learned about how companies report their environmental data, while also improving my Microsoft excel skills. Furthermore, I have greatly improved my professional communication skills during my meetings with my supervisors. Since we meet at least 3 times each week, I have learned to come to each meeting with a summary of the work I completed and questions to ask.

2) Personally, I think that the most helpful piece of advice for future VIP interns would be to ask questions throughout the internship. As a new intern to the company or organization, you will likely be confused at some point during the internship whether it be about your assignments or even what the company/organization does. If you attempt to navigate the internship without asking questions when they arise, you could end up falling short of expectations or produce incomplete work. Finally, as mentioned, it is very important to understand the operations of the company that you are interning for as this will greatly help you when completing work.

3) What do the evenings after work typically look like in Barcelona/Spain? Do coworkers often go out to dinner or get drinks? Does the interaction between coworkers outside the office contribute to a more productive workplace?

1) My internship is very fascinating and I have learned so much not only about a field of great interest but more about the world as well. Most of what I have learned is task-specific that is I have developed a better understanding of the mental health components that are associated with minors who move countries unaccompanied. Given that my tasks are more research oriented, I have not had a lot of opportunities work with others, however, I feel that communication has been improving.

2) The best advice I can give is to be flexible, given the nature of the internship it is very possible that there will not be one consistent task to do and sometimes it is necessary to adapt to unexpected situations. Also, I know this will be said by a lot of people but communication is key; if there is any confusion ask the supervisor.

3) From a business/work perspective I am curious to what leads to more efficiency and success. Also, I am a interested in other aspects of culture as well such as foods, traditions, and music.

1) My virtual internship has been a great learning experience for me. Working closely with my supervisor Raul has taught me a great deal about specific details of the projects. I have learned many things and gained valuable experience that I can take with me moving forward.

2) My major piece of advice would be to try to always stay in contact with your supervisor and ask many questions. Some people might not be able to communicate daily with their supervisor, but personally I found that communication through whats app with my supervisor was extremely helpful and mutually beneficial.

3) I would like to learn more about Catalan and the cultural differences, since many of the project documents I am reading are all in Catalan. It seems to be a very interesting language and something I would like to learn more about

1. My virtual internship for the Barcelona-based record label, Son Canciones, has included a variety of projects and tasks that have strengthened my marketing and communication skills. I've enjoyed researching about record labels, music festivals, and college radio stations, to name a few, across the world and gathering information for Son Canciones to improve as a company. As a Marketing and Communications Assistant, I've worked on projects that have been both for the interior and exterior of the company. Meaning, I've worked directly on their social sites and organized information for each of their artists to upload to YouTube in order to facilitate in their transfer over to another distributor. Exterior wise, I've spent time researching marketing tactics for the company to improve in comparison to other social sites from various record labels across the globe.

2. The biggest piece of advice would be to stay on top of your work and ask as many questions as you can.

3. I'm interested in knowing the typical dynamic between co-workers outside of the office.

1. So far, I have truly enjoyed my internship experience. I have learned so much within such a short amount of time. I have learned the importance of graphic design in a digitalized world. I also learned that there are numerous steps in graphic design, such as researching content. Throughout my experience I have also improved on certain skills. For instance, my grammar has improved since I am consistently writing blogs.

2. My main piece of advice for future VIP interns is to be as openminded as possible. There is so much to learn in such a short amount of time. It is okay if there are mistakes made, the most important part is learning from those mistakes.

3. I would like to learn more about Barcelona's history and how their history has impacted their culture. I am also interested in seeing how diverse Barcelona is.

From my research I have learned a lot about cross-cultural social work, which is something I have never looked into before. I have also learned that a virtual career is probably not my cup of tea, but I have improve upon my ability to stay motivated when working on my own schedule.

2) A piece of advice for future VIP interns would be to set a regular working schedule and make sure to stick to it.

3) I would like to know more about the history of Barcelona and how the culture has evolved from it.

-Elyse Barkstrom
