Wrapped around the community center, the line of voters snaked along silently until the lady behind me tapped me on my shoulder.  "Long line, eh?" I popped out my ear buds and gave a friendly nod. "As long as everyone here is voting for the right one..." she added. "Fiend!" I shrieked. Okay, not really. But what an attempted entry into another dimension I suddenly felt plunged! The dystopian possibilities! Margaret Atwood I'm looking at you! So here we are. Election Night 2020. Instead of watching a live stream, like we did with the Poetry of Protest broadcast, we are going to collaborate together and launch our final major class event: the research paper. We will be using Shirley Jackson's election story, "The Lottery" as the nucleus around which we will argue that her 70 year old story is curiously, strangely, wickedly relevant.
