Jocelyn confidently matches, sorts, and identifies all shapes, sizes, colours and their shades, as well as grouping numbers and phonetic alphabet letters, demonstrating her well-developed visual perception skills. She completes patterns and puzzles with great ease and accuracy. Jocelyn’s ability to recognise shapes and complete a wide range of visual tasks has impressed her friends, showcasing her strong observational skills and attention to detail.

Auditory Development:

Jocelyn has shown remarkable improvement in her auditory perception skills these past two reporting terms. Her ability to identify beginning sounds during the CVC activities has become effortless and she consistently demonstrates progress with her auditory analysis and synthesis skills, enabling her to sound out and read words with confidence. Our primary focus has been on enhancing auditory sequencing skills, enabling her to better recall the order of sounds, their locations within the classroom and the tempo at which they were played.

She has demonstrated a good understanding that all writing progresses from the left of the page to the right and from the top down to the bottom. Her fine motor control is evident in her legible handwriting, as seen in her recent worksheet activity, where she confidently wrote her name and surname, as well as various short words.

Jocelyn eagerly took part in the musical chairs and action dance songs, with “Tooty Tah” and “Gummy Bear” being her favourites. She enjoys twirling and dancing to the lively songs, laughing and having fun with her friends. Jocelyn shows great creativity and enthusiasm during art activities, exploring different materials, colours, and textures to express her ideas. She takes pride in her creations and loves sharing her artistic ideas with others. Her imagination and confidence continue to grow with each new project.

Jocelyn has well-developed fine motor skills. She enjoys learning new and challenging activities, always making sure she completes them correctly and gains my approval for excellence. Jocelyn likes being creative when playing with pegs and pegboards, building blocks, and playdough. Her cutting, drawing, tracing, and colouring skills have shown satisfactory improvement throughout the year. She quickly mastered a 24-piece puzzle and thoroughly enjoyed the challenges presented by the various 36- and 48-piece puzzles.

Jocelyn has shown consistent improvement in her overall gross motor development this year. Her ability to skip, jump, hop, crawl, gallop, and balance on one leg has developed significantly, demonstrating growing confidence and coordination in physical activities. She has also shown impressive hand–eye and foot–eye coordination during various ball games and activities, displaying a strong preference for using the right side of her body effectively.

Jocelyn has consistently given her best efforts during our daily mathematical sessions. She is capable of rote counting from 0 to 100 from memory, using either the counting sheet or an abacus. Jocelyn accurately identifies any number between 0 and 20 and uses the correct number formations during tracing and written worksheet activities. She has thoroughly enjoyed learning basic addition and subtraction over the last two reporting terms, and her mental maths abilities have shown good improvement during this time.

Jocelyn has shown excellent progress in her additional language development. She is confident in reciting the days of the week and the months of the year in both Afrikaans and isiZulu. She can identify almost all colours and shapes in Afrikaans with ease. Jocelyn also enjoys learning the sign language gestures taught and is able to use several gestures to demonstrate her understanding.
