I chose this piece as I found the concepts behind the image really interesting. The image depicts an older women looking in a mirror surrounded by material wealth, the intended message was likely to mock the figure as a 'lustful old women', inappropriately concerned with her appearance. However, it can also be read as a self-assured women taking pride and seeing beauty in her ageing body. It plays around with the idea of age being the wealth instead of the material items surrounding her, which is something I found really interesting.

Through the concept of the Simone Rocha and Adidas collaboration I wanted to look for similarities within the brands. One thing that stood out to me in particular that showed similarities in Simone Rocha was the bomber jackets/windbreakers and tracksuits seen woven throughout her collections, mixed with her distinctive feminine and lace pieces. This I felt was a staple seen throughout the history of Adidas and is something that would sell and work as a cohesive piece which drew me to this concept. The development seen above shows two concept boards of my ideas for this potential collaboration.

As a group, during this session we were tasked to create a trend forecasting for 5 years time. This allowed us to think about how trend cycles work and how we could apply these ideologies to work out our predictions for this 5 year period. As a group we created a mind map to visualise our concepts, which helped me to further develop my own ideas when it came to develop my personal response.

The painting represents the process of self-destruction in order to attain the elixir of life or eternal beauty. It is stated that this image is related to a text by the ancient alchemist Zosimos of Panoplis, who writes: "These old sages voluntarily dismembered themselves and boiled the pieces until a perfect decoction took place, in order to change their feeble old age into a state of force and vigour". The act of ripping yourself apart in order to achieve a sense of beauty seems to be an outrageous act. However, when looking at it in a metaphorical sense this is exactly what most people both past and present are willing to do. The paintings ideologies are something that are seen within modern day beauty standards which is interesting to consider the paintings creation date.

Following the session we had on sustainability I wanted to follow the idea of more sustainable material products. The leather industry is one of the most harmful forms of material production so it has become a really interesting concept to develop into a more sustainable product. Mylo is a brand that has been developing mycelium leather as a much more sustainable leather product. They have worked with brands such as Stella McCartney, Adidas and Lululemon which has allowed this product to grow more in the industry. For this session I have created a concept board for this product.

During this session we were taught the skills used to create a CAD on illustrator. This could then be applied further when moving on to develop more challenging silhouettes.
