Conclusion

As suggested by our data, our hypothesis was incorrect. The heart-shaped leaf chads had a much slower rate of photosynthesis than circle-shaped leaf chads, as shown by how much longer the heart-shaped leaf took to reach the surface. This may be attributed the the difference in the surface-area to volume ratio, however, the difference between the two chad shapes is very small. This may suggest the data is not reliable, because this implies the action of the chads floating to the surface of the solution was attributed to chance. If not by chance, the circle-leaf chads may have floated to the top more quickly because the stirring of the chads was not consistent with the way the heart-shaped chads were stirred. Two different people stirred each, at different intervals, and with different methods. Other errors may also come from the circle-shaped chads having more air within them to begin with, as it may not have all been removed in the sixth step of the procedure. This would cause the circle chads to be able to rise to the top more quickly. In future experiments, the difference in chad shape should be much bigger, to ascertain statistically significant results.

Our data shows, through the bar graph above, that the rate of photosynthesis in circle-shaped leaf chads was almost double the rate of the heart-shaped leaf chads. Heart-shaped leaf chads had a 1/ET50 of approximately 0.0016, while the circle chads had an 1/ET50 of .0027
