         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Thorndike:<br>-The Puzzle Box<br>-Purpose-</strong> how fast animal learns to do certain actions, gradual or sharp increase/decrease in latency (time it takes to get response)<br><strong>-Procedure-</strong> put cat in box, when cat pushes button in box the cat escapes, measures time it takes animal to escape, how long it takes cat to learn how to get out, when cat got out of the box it was rewarded <br><strong>-Results-</strong> punishment was worse than reward in helping cat learn, more often=quicker learning, the more you practice the more your brain makes connections with learning<br><strong>-Ethical-</strong> yes because cat not harmed, given reward<br><strong>-Contribution- </strong>connectionism (training/incentives), introduce the idea of shaping <br><strong>Skinner:<br>-Purpose- </strong>study animal behavior, show reinforcement can effect behavior<br><strong>-Procedure- </strong>put rat inside skinner box, each time rat presses lever food comes out, same with pidgeon except pidgeon pecks dish<br><strong>-Results- </strong>rat showed that after the response there was a better influence onrate of occurrence, pidgeon turned out to be better subject and found that scheduled reinforcement worked best<br><strong>-Ethical- </strong>no cruelty, animals were cared for, no physical or mental damage<br><strong>-Contribution- </strong>controversial, people thought he was trying to brain wash people, made behaviorism predominate field&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Little Albert<br>-Researchers-</strong> John Watson and Rosalie Rayer<br><strong>-Purpose- </strong>disprove the assumption that fears are caused by Freud's psychoanalytical perspecitve<br><strong>-Procedure-</strong> little albert taken from hospital, presented with neutral stimulus, experimenters created a loud noise whenever albert went to touch the animal, tested to see if albert was afraid of things similar to the animal, psychologists test him after a long period of time to see if the fear last<br><strong>-Results-</strong> fear is learned<br><strong>-Ethical-</strong> no assent/consent, emotional harm, no attempt to reverse harm<br><strong>-Contribution-</strong> how conditioning is used, reinforcement tecniques, positive or negative outcomes, prove need for ethical guidelines</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Pavolvs dogs<br>-Purpose-</strong> to answer how are conditioned reflexes acquired if you aren't born with them<br><strong>-Procedure-</strong> dogs have incision in cheek with tube, placed in soundproof lab to block out external stimuli, tried to get response using similar things such as the smell or a metronome to mimic steps<br><strong>-Results-</strong> dogs associated food with sound/smell/sight of object, conditioned to salivate with less food and instead just the stimulus <br><strong>-Ethical- </strong>dogs in good lab, incision kept clean, no effects of experiment too drastic <br><strong>-Contributions-</strong> little albert study, conditioning against phobias, condition predators to stay away from sheep</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Seligman: <br>-Presenting<br>Bandura:<br>The Bobo Doll<br>-Purpose-</strong> if children would mimic violent and nonviolent role models, if children follow role models of same sex, if boys are more violent<br><strong>-Procedure- </strong>5 groups; control, aggressive male, aggressive female, non aggressive male, non aggressive female. adult would model behavior, kids were then taken to room to see if they would mimic behavior<br><strong>-Results- </strong>children with bad role models would imitate, boys influenced by male models, boys more aggressive than girls, males became more aggressive with a non aggressive female<br><strong>-Ethical- </strong>no treatment after to address behavior (debrief), no explicit consent<br><strong>-Contribution-</strong> understanding of domestic abuse, violence in media</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Variable (Random)<br>Fixed (Set)<br>Ratio (Number of Responses)<br>Interval (Time)<br><br><strong>Variable ratio: </strong>buying lottery tickets and winning occasionally OR winning the jackpot on the slot machine after a changing number of times playing it<br><strong>Fixed ratio:</strong> reinforcement after a certain amount of (ex: getting paid after each time a car is sold)<br><strong>Variable Interval:</strong> checking your phone for texts not knowing when the text will come but continuing to check until you see the text<br><strong>Fixed interval:</strong> reinforcement after a certain amount of time (ex: doing a job an receiving a paycheck at end of each month)<br><strong>Continuous reinforcement:</strong> based on every instance a behavior occurs<br><strong>Ratio schedules:</strong> based on number or behaviors <br><strong>Interval schedules:</strong> reinforcement is based on time</div>]]></description>
