The Induction to the Taming of the Shrew gives you an idea as to what the play is about. In the beginning when Sly is arguing with the hostess it is foreshadowing the theme of the play, which is a battle of the sexes. The prank that the lord plays on Sly by tricking him into believing he is a nobel also introduces the theme that people change as circumstances change. Another way the induction prepares you for the play is by having Sly and the other servants watch the play as you are watching it, so you are almost experiencing it together.
