I thought I was in freedom. Shhh. Colored folks living down there on the riverbanks in whatever kind of shelter they could find for themselves." Troy is talking about how when African Americans firs came over they couldn't get jobs or anything, they were being treated so differently.

Troy Maxson is a very strong character. His strengths are being able to balance work, his friends, and family. However. when he is home he isn't the nicest to Cory his son but he treats Rose very well in the begging of the play. His weakness would say is his brother Gabe. I think this is his weakness because he feels guilty he took Gabe money after his accident sometimes, but he wasnt in the states to be able to have ha kind of money.

The poem I, too is about the segregation of African Americans. I choose his poem to connect it to Troys life also because I think that it makes perfect sense. Troy hates he fact segregation is even a thing and how whites get far much more then the black people do. In the end Troy just wants to have the same privileges and this poem talks bout the segregation and relates to Troy life.

Fences & Raisin in the Sun

Fences and Raisin in the sun are both very different plays in my eyes. Raisin in the sun deals more with being poor while Fences is the struggle of Troy cheating on Rose, and family issues. Rose and Mama are different in my eyes because Rose is more understanding and calm while Mama doesn't take anything from anyone. However Walter is not the best husband while Troy can also relate to that one. The characters from both plays all have there similarities and there differences.
The theme Family shoes up in both plays. In Raisin in the Sun Walter is focused on making a better living space and home for Travis to live in. While Troy wants Cory to not only be nothing like him, but not get hurt playing football. What Troy is doing might seem selfish, but I truly think he was doing it for the best of Cory. This is what I think the biggest theme is in both of the plays. Manhood is mostly in Fences while it could be incorporated in Raisin also. Walter wants nothing but to be successful and make Travis happy and this shows a sign of manhood.

The importance of family.
" Yes – I taught you that. Me and your daddy. But I thought I taught you something else too… I thought I taught you to love him. (Act III, scene i)"
The theme he importance of family shows up a lo in Raisin in the Sun. The Younger's are low on money and have been struggling. Mama the whole plays tries to teach her children the importance of family and how they need to stick together. That is the biggest theme in Raisin in the Sun

Manhood
I would say manhood is the biggest theme in Fences because both Troy and Cory have been threw a rough patch. The time when Cory asked Troy why he didn't like hi was he first time I saw this theme. It was shocking to hear that Troy only had to say he doesn't have to like him, he feeds him and put a roof over his head that is all he needs. To also add when Cory finally stood up to his father, Troy viewed that as a sign of Cory becoming more of a man. Being the man of the house is a big dutie but Troy lost all respect after cheating on Rose, so Cory needed to step up. This is why I think manhood fits perfect with Fences.

Responsible-He accepts the fact that he is the man in the house and need to takes care of his family aside from his work.
quote-"Sometimes I wish I hadn’t known my daddy. . . . But I’ll say this for him . . . he felt a responsibility toward us. Maybe he ain’t treated us the way I felt he should have . . . but without that responsibility he could have walked off and left us." This is Troy talking about his father, he knows how he felt he way his father treated him and he doesnt want to make he same mistake. Troy wants to take complete care of his family which makes him a responsible father, and husband.

I think that this painting goes with Troy. This painting shows a father holding his son, while his son points out to the sky and they look out in the distance. Troy would do anything to stop Cory from being the an he was, and I think that his art work shows what Cory and Troy both would love heir relationship to be.
