There is good wine in it, and one may as well be as comfortable as one can. Let us drink, even if tonight one of us dies" (Saki 191).

This quote is a main highlight of the short story's climax. The rising action showed Ulrich von Gradwitz and Georg Anaeym feuding after they got stuck under the same tree. Keep in mind, this situation came to be after both men set out into the forest to hunt each other. They started off as enemies, but since they were physically forced in close quarters to each other, they were able to talk it out given the conversational intimacy. Both men drew a conclusion that it is easier to love than to hate.

And you offered me your wine flask... Ulrich von Gradwitz, I will be your friend" (Saki 192).

This quote represents the turning point of the book due to it's shocking realization. Before Ulrich Von Gradwitz and Georg Anaeym were stuck under the tree, it was shown throughout the story that their feud had persevered through many years. It seemed as if it wouldn't be able to come to an end any time soon. This quote specifically shows Ulrich deciding to take the first move in ending this silly rivalry all by sharing one wine flask. Eventually, both men came to an understanding of how peace would be better than hate. The wine flask became a symbol of how one correct action could be the meaning to your own well-being.
