The hydro power station, the Three Gorges Dam is a high making money business. It makes 37 billion. If they did not have the dam the people that worked on the dam would not make any money. Some of the industries that use the river are municipal and domestic ,industry, agriculture and ecological. The Three Gorges Dam has 32 main generators and is 187 meters tall and 2,309 meters long. This is why the Three Gorges Dam is a major part to the economic value.

Over the last 50 years there has been a 73% increase of pollution. Most of the pollution is from industries and sewage but also from chemicals. People that live along the river have poisoned the bank and about 20 million people just in Shanghai have suffered from the rivers pollution. China is trying to stop the pollution The polluted river is making a major environmental issue.

There are more than 400 million people living around the Yangtze River and over the last 50 years the population has doubled. There has been traces of human activity around the river for over 2 million years ago in 770-476 BC. Crossing the rivers was very hard to get across so the tribes would have a fierce war.

There are many customs like Yangtze trackers and fisherman. Many festivals have different meaning like in January they have festivals for tourism and cultural and in June they have stone carving art festival. There is a very special legend could the Dragon Boat Race and eating Zongzi. The legend says that it goes after a man named Qu Yuan drowning himself and there are many more legends. All of these festivals, legends and customs are still celebrated.
