The issue or concerns that I wanted to address in terms of HUMSS Strand was all about vote buying or electoral fraud during campaign season, which might damage various politicians' ability to get elected to positions of power. Furthermore, this cannot be resolved until the present day because there are careless people who do this, and sometimes money is used as a kind of exchange to buy votes for a specific candidate. This can be related to politics, where it can be one of the difficulties addressing the use of power to easily obtain a seat in the administration.

The Philippine government's shockingly inept approaches in addressing the compromised minimum wage of full time employees, are amongst the evident issues that I am personally yearning to pinpoint. As it stands, certain workers such as teachers, tailors, and manufacturers have greatly experienced this detriment. On top of having to further invest in several supplies and resources (fabric, books, gadgets, and whatnots), along with the need to pay their taxes; they are hardly given adequate credit and recognition where it's essentially due. As a result, their salary slips across a vast declivity, by which some are left, unable to access their own necessities. Hence, this goes as far as to testify that corruption is nearly inevitable in the sovereign state. There will always be at least a single person who opts to exploit authority for their own benefit, at the expense of the common good.

As per the humanities and social sciences (HUMSS) strand, the custom of preferring family members or relatives to someone who has the influential power to dictate, over other personalities with the strength and knowledge of the same occupation, commonly known as nepotism, is undoubtedly the concern I eagerly want to address. In the world we live in today, there are a considerable amount of smart and talented people who have the will to critically think and rationally act based on the given circumstances. It is with many, if not all, governmental institutions that prejudice arises. I, personally, have seen how nepotism thrives not only in the government workplace but also in other municipalities, in which many fail to acquire the job they are qualified for due to favoritism. It is common for nepotism to be seen in governmental institutions, but, in fact, it can also be seen in other fields, such as in show business.

One specific issue or concern in society (as related to being a HUMSS student in the humanities and social sciences field) is the stigma associated with mental health. Especially in the Philippines (or maybe also in other countries), visiting a psychologist can be viewed as a negative thing, and the person going through something can be labeled as "crazy" or even "overreacting". These attitudes toward mental health topics can push people to avoid looking for professional help, as the social consequences of this can be destructive to one's reputation. Mental and emotional health is as important as physical health, as many experts have already emphasized the importance of mental well-being as it affects and impacts the individual's life.

The discrimination that people of color, women, people of different religions, individuals with gender identity, and other groups encounter is one topic that I want to bring up once again. This tends to happen all over. People often criticize their coworkers in the workplace only on the basis of their looks or beliefs. They are treated differently than other individuals, which makes them feel as like they don't belong. The prejudice of others impacts their well-being.

There are various issues and concerns in the Philippines or simply in each city that are interesting to address and tackle, but personally, the unemployment rate in the Philippines is captivating to approach and talk about. Despite of the fact that different politicians already sat on different positions, high unemployment rate is still present in the Philippines. I believe, it is worth to address due to the families that have a minimum amount of financial support because the other family member can't acquire a job. The government's job implementation requirements should also be reachable to those unprivileged citizens that doesn't have a good education, for them to be able to support themselves or even their families and have a decent life. Most people might not have a good educational background but wise enough to survive a job with acceptable salary.

Despite being the longest-running bill under the Senate interpellation period in the Philippines, the SOGIE Equality Bill is yet to be signed into law, and much of the circulating disapproval, both among government officials and the general public, is rooted in the misconception of the bill’s provisions. These misconceptions, such as its selectivity in protection and its endangerment to religious groups, greatly affect the necessary support that are to be given to this bill which doesn’t, in fact, provide exclusive protection to the LGBTQIA+ community, nor does it harm any religious groups. The SOGIE Equality Bill protects people from discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, all of which are applicable to anyone, whether or not they are a part of the LGBTQIA+ community or not. This concern, as well as other obstacles that contribute to the prolonged process, and possibly any intentions to junk it, such as the prevalent stigma on the LGBTQIA+ community, is something I would like to address as a graduating student in the Humanities and Social Sciences strand.

Gender inequality remains the key issue that I feel strongly about addressing. Although the current generation continues to gradually veer away from outdated gender ideologies, we cannot deny that hints of sexism and discrimination still exist. Judgemental predispositions on how women, men, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community should look/act/behave like can invalidate their unique identities - their truths. As a HUMSS student, I would like to tackle these stigmas and behaviors, in hopes of contributing to the agenda of making humanity more inclusive.

A concern i would like to address and elaborate is the inflation rate here in the Philippines. It has been observed that from the past 61 years, the inflation rate of the consumer prices in Philippines averaged 8.5% each year. The effects of the inflation rate can result to poor health, nutrition, housing, and quality of education to the people of the Philippines. Additionally, jeepney and tricycle drivers are deeply affected by the double increase cost of fuels, therefore, there will be a decline in their income resulting to a higher chance of poverty. To add on my point, the current inflation rate can cause poverty to many. Unfortunately, the current administration of the Philippines is not attending to this current economical problem.

Colorism refers to the prejudice or discrimination that favors people with lighter skin over those with darker skin, particularly within a racial or ethnic group. In the Philippines, having white skin is considered a beauty standard, despite the fact that most Filipinos are born with tanned or brown skin. Because of the social pressure to have fair skin in order to be considered beautiful, many Filipinos felt compelled to use skin whitening products, causing the Philippines to have one of the highest rates of use of skin whitening products in the world. This continues to be an issue as is has made life difficult for some dark-skinned Filipinos, who are bullied and made to feel inferior just because of their skin color.

The cost of production must be reduced through globalization, or it must empower businesses to make their goods more affordably.

In line with the HUMSS strand, I'd like to acknowledge the deterioration of mental health in young adolescents, and the general stigma surrounded by consulting a professional/peer. Because if being an impressionable young mind in a world far too large wasn't enough, consequently asking for help in your most vulnerable state mentally would make you "lesser". As we live in an age of information one could say that an innocence has been lost, as one can only gaze at the gravity of the true vastness of society, how large the machine is and how delicate the systems. Concepts algorithmically fed and spewed, as you view a picture so wide at a pace so fast. Noise at such volumes preventing coherency and only impulse.

As a HUMSS researcher, one issue I’d like to tackle is the reliance on cryptocurrency and its impact on the environment and the art community. With the rise of cryptocurrency, from common bitcoin investors to big brands and names, have all owned or participated in investing cryptocurrency and even some spending their life’s worth investing or purchasing the different types of currency in the so called block chain. While some say that it would help shield you from inflation and easier transaction cost, relying on cryptocurrency as a main source of income is a risk for you and for others. In the aspect of the environment, these crypto farms generate a lot of electricity and mining which produces over 85 pounds of Carbon Dioxide according to the business insider. In terms of the art community, specific cryptocurrency called Non fungible tokens or NFTs are known to be an outlet for scams for investors to invest in while stealing other artworks online to be used as a token without credits to the actual artist.

As a HUMSS student and a woman myself, I would like to dive more into and address the concept of "victim blaming". Women around the globe, are constantly told that "prevention is better than the solutions" whereas you have to dress appropriately, act a certain way and not be in risky situations for you to avoid being sexually harassed. This mindset is abundant in the Philippines, where perpetrators run free because of the system that chose to believe that the way you dress determines the outcome of your day. Thus, I would like to research more on the topic not only to gain insight but to understand why 🤬 Culture and Victim Blaming is still an existing flaw in our culture and governing bodies.

As a HUMMS student, one issue I would like to address is discrimination. There are different types of discrimination such as religious discrimination, race discrimination, lgbt discrimination and much more. I wish to address any and all discrimination that takes place in our society today because of how this affects not only a person mentally, but also in other ways as this causes people to have trouble finding and maintaining jobs, presenting themselves in public without being ridiculed etc. People who are discriminated against are those who do not fit the small box that society created to limit what being a 'normal person' is, but that makes them even more supremely human. Discrimination affects lifestyles, mental health, jobs, and much more. It is not something that should still be acceptable in this day and age.

One of the many problems in our society that I would like to address related to my strand of choice (HUMSS) is the lack of mental awareness of many Filipinos. Sometimes, people's minds are set to think that being depressed automatically means they have "sinned gravely enough for pain" and "they are possessed by a demon". Instead of reaching out to lend a helping hand, they tell them that they had worse, but that does not give anyone the right to invalidate someone’s pain. Society needs to be aware that there is more to someone’s story and separate themselves from the picture to solely focus on the most important matter at hand. Instead of belittling and lowering their self-esteem, they should be patient, understand, and at least try first before jumping into conclusions. It is also important for people to know that being hurt does not mean they are weak, shameful, or a loser. It can affect work and because of it the creativity of our minds will deteriorate.

Overcoming Interpersonal hurdles between Individuals.

As a HUMMS student, I know that one of the concerns that many of us have had is the difficulty of interpersonal and communication skills, even though we are aware that this strand's students are expected to be competent in these areas. The ability to communicate with people through effective listening and interaction is known as an interpersonal skill. In most cases, we students pick up social skills through our teachers and classmates at school. However, some students continue to struggle with interpersonal skills for a wide range of reasons, most obviously their introverted personality. Developing stronger interpersonal relationship is crucial for better learning, communicating with other people, personality growth, and academic improvement.

Inclusivity is one of the main societal concerns I would like to focus on. The term entails providing equal opportunities for groups that may be otherwise marginalized or underrepresented in society (Oxford Languages, n.d.). Whether it is inside the classroom, workplace, online spaces, or the community - it is vital that each member feels safe and welcomed, regardless of their race, gender, self-expression, physical appearance, and the like. Though society has made some progress towards attaining this goal, there is still a long way to go in terms of becoming truly inclusive, which I hope to be able to contribute to as I pursue my studies under the HUMSS strand.

A concern that I have noticed and would like to address in the business industry is product false advertising. This issue is an important matter to tackle as it ultimately affects our experience as consumers. As this has been around for quite a long time already people already got used to it and have been cautious buyers ever since. As brands continue to mislead and confuse their costumers, I would like to dive deep down into the reasons, causes, and effects that leads to such action. This is because as producers, honest and truthful advertising is part of ethics in the industry. Additionally, I would like to know people's response to this and how they battle with it when they are shopping.
