Irony is the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect or a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result. Or in Greek literature it means a literary technique, originally used in Greek tragedy, by which the full significance of a character's words or actions are clear to the audience or reader although unknown to the character. Or a simpler way to say it in my own words is ironic kind of and can be humorous or sarcasm.

Irony means a large amount of emotion. I'm sure you must of heard someone say "Oh the irony!" at least once when watching an emotional movie or event. For example, if some one just died, there would be a lot of irony. Also if there is a funny joke stated, there would be irony. I like to think of irony as an opposite of something that is actually reality. For example, If a cat is inside a bird cage and a bird outside the cage trying to strike the cat, this would be ironic because it makes no sense and wouldn't be very likely to happen in real life.
