While working toward her bachelor of arts in history from Emory, she entered the alcoholic beverage industry as a summer worker in the Atlanta warehouse and customer service divisions of National Distributing Company (NDC). Kari Carlos became a full-time on-premises wine sales consultant with NDC after graduation. Over the next seven years, she accepted a series of managerial promotions and secured certified specialist of wine (CSW), certified specialist of spirits (CSS), and level 2 wine and spirits education trust (WSET) designations. She remained with NDC through multiple mergers that resulted in the emergence of the affiliated Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC). In the early 2010s, Ms. Carlos served vice-presidential roles with WineSource International and Pacific Highway Wine and Spirits before returning to RNDC in 2015.
