         <title>Disciplinary-Specific Literacy is inherent to middle and high school reading and learning. In those grades students are expected to read, write, and think, in discipline specific ways. They encounter much complex text and need to have knowledge and processes that are appropriate for each discipline.</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Although I don’t remember specific assignments from middle school and high school. I do remember having many reading assignments where we had to read a specific text and then write our thoughts about the text. How can this concept apply to physical education? One thing I thought of is if we are going over a drill for a specific sport or other type of activity we could give a slightly detailed reading of the drill, have the students perform the drill and finally have the students write down how they felt performing the drill or activity.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Reading the text's example for this part reminds me of the chemistry course I took a while ago in college for my undergrad. Whenever I attended a class for lecture or lab I always felt in the mode of chemistry. I thought that the professor taught us the core concepts very well and it allowed me to be more confident in asking questions and problem solving for our assignments. I think this concept of diagonal learning with content knowledge and habits of mind can apply to physical education when it comes to teaching the students a specific sport for example basketball. The students need to know the core rules of the game, ability to manipulate the ball, and different plays for their team to get the ball in the net to score.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Learning from my classmates is one thing that I’ve noticed helped me out immensely throughout my academic career, That and just reading the textbook. I remember this writing professor I had in college and we would write a page every other week and what he would have us do was submit our rough draft and in class he would put each paper on the projector and we would all critique it as a class. It was something I dreaded every time and I'm sure all the other students did as well but I know it made me a better writer. A way that this can be applied to physical education is if the students are getting ready for a physical fitness test for the following week and they are having trouble with a specific exercise they can watch another student perform that exercise to help them better understand it.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This reminds me of playing water polo in high school and our coach would always have us work through plays and have us figure out if the main person wasn’t open for the play what we should do next. This can definitely be physical education if a student is doing an obstacle course in high school and having them figure out how they need to traverse the obstacle course.</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>As much as I hated short essay questions I know they pushed me to understand the subject and I remember for high school being tested with essay questions helped me more than multiple choice questions. For physical education I think if a student is taking a physical fitness test it helped me when they recorded my scores for their exercise at the beginning of the school year. I had this drive to do better for the next fitness test later in the school year.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Unfortunately I graduated high school when the Common Core State Standard was released in 2010. However, I did experience it a little through my niece. I noticed it was a little more in depth especially when it came to math. My niece had to show her work a lot more when it came to a math problem even when it was the most basic problem. As far as I’m aware the physical education standards have changed that much since I’ve been in high school. Just a few changes to some areas to PE but I do need to do a deeper dive in all the standards now in relation to what they were before I graduated high school.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Ever since I was in school from elementary school and higher I had a learning disability and reading took me awhile to get used to, I didn’t start reading for fun until I reached a high school sophomore and once I started to read more for fun it carried or to better understanding textbooks. Though, I did need to take a course to get better at reading research articles. When it came to physical sports I could definitely tell that it was hard to grasp the concept of curtain plays for hockey.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Regardless if reading for fun helped me better get into reading textbooks a lot more it didn’t really help me understand research articles as scholarly journals. For my undergraduate senior project the required course was strategies of research papers. The course definitely helped me out so much to better understand the complexities of the texts that I needed to read for my project.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Going through middle school I noticed that there was a lot of required reading and not a lot of choosing what to read. However when it came to high school, yes there were required readings but we were allowed to choose from a long list of required reading and it made it easier because I picked the ones I was more interested in.</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>
