On March 11th, 2001 in North Eastern Okuma Fukushima, Japan the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant had a severe meltdown causing the 2nd worst nuclear accident which was caused by a 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, that resulted in an electrical grid failure and damaged nearly all of the backup generators in turn causing the inability to cool the reactors after shutdown causing a compromise to containment and releasing radioactive contaminants into the surrounding environment.
