Over 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the United States every year. That's one student every 26 seconds, or 7,000 students a day (DoSomething.org).

And almost 2,000 schools in the US graduate less than 60% of their students. High school dropouts earn $200,000 less than high school graduates in their lifetime, and commit about 75% of the crime in the US (DoSomething.org).

Some alternative schools offer an environment that is accepting of at risk youth differences and allow them to express themselves without fear of ridicule or punishment  allowing these students to meet with academic success and social acceptance (Johnston et al., 2018).

This has become a trend for at risk youth in secondary schools.
