Us students have improved immensely in writing. A few examples of writing skills we learned is:not to use crutches, to know how to use FANBOYS, learned to cite sources properly in MLA format. We have also learned how to use Pathos, Logos, Ethos, and the understanding of literary terms like soliloquy or allusions. Something we share in our improvements in writing is our analysis, connectivity to thesis, and evidence. Since writing is more individual based, I will use my essay to show our improvements. It says, "An example of this kind of scenario is in the article, “Ill equipped rescuers dig out volcano victims: Aid slow to reach Colombian Town” by Bradley Graham. Describing the disaster, he retells a specific event of peanut farmer and a old lady who were trapped under a collapsed house. He says..." So as you can see, this lead-in wasn't very clear on who is this "he" and this is an example of my poor evidence.

Fast-Forward to the end of the school year. Those problems that we were plagued with when we first came to Mrs. House's is no more. Okay, maybe not all of it, but we have definitely improved. For example Robert, me, and Kevin have all improved our fluidity in our writing and our matters. We have also improved our matters and analysis to connect back to the thesis. An example of our improvement through my writing is when I wrote, "Mao Zedong once said, “All political power comes from the barrel of a gun. The Communist party must command all the guns, that way, no guns can ever be used to command the party” (Zedong). Mao Zedong implied that the government must be the one who has the power and, the only one to wield it. The government, obtaining such power, has the ability to instill fear into their citizens and force them to abide, reminding defiant ones that the barrel is loaded." Here, my matters is a lot better than before and it connects back to the thesis.

In the beginning of the school year, we were reluctant to ask questions, but nearing the end of the school year, everyone participated! Maybe it could be for the sake of our grades, but that's okay. It promoted discussions and new ideas. Since this English class believed that there was no wrong answer, we were more comfortable and confident to raise our hands and answer a question. An example of this was when we had Socratic seminars. For Socratic Seminars, it was basically an open discussion that could take any turn especially since there wasn't really any wrong answer. One of the most memorable ones, was the Socratic seminar for the novel, Night by Elie Wiesel. I especially enjoyed this seminar because after the seminar we were being graded on, we had a open discussion for fun. I remember that everyone was pitching in their thoughts, and I felt really excited to discuss new topics. Participating made me able to find my voice in this class and it especially benefited me in writing.

TEAMWORK, YEAH!!!
We are college and career ready because this year in particular taught us a very valuable lesson. That lesson is about working with people that aren't your friends or people that you are unfamiliar with. With Mrs. House randomization of seat changes, we have learned to work with unfamiliar peers which was a new experience for us. It wasn't easy, but Robert managed to find ways around these difficulties and in the end, it was rewarding. Just like what Kevin learned this year, this will be reflected in real life especially in college and his career. In college and careers, you don't get to choose who you work with. You can't have a stacked team, that would only promote inefficiency among the workforce.

There are students like me who absolutely hated the idea of using technology for educational purposes. When I found out that this class was going to be technology heavy, I was very dismayed and forced to adapt. However, throughout the school year we got better at using technology. From things like Google Drive and Organizing my documents to effectively using google classroom. We have improved significantly. Still, compared to others, I am still horrible at using technology. It takes me 1 hour on average to be able to do the citations correctly. I still have trouble sharing a document, and I still don't know how to take off highlights. Also, if you look at my digital portfolio, and expect it to be aesthetically pleasing, I am truly sorry because it is the most generic looking digital portfolio you will ever see. Nonetheless, as a class we have improved in being able to use technology correctly, and some have even grown quite comfortable with it.

When the year started, some students, including myself didn't have analysis. The "analysis" was just a paraphrased version of the quote. It was very on the surface and very boring and generic with no deeper meaning. Throughout the school year we were able to improve and go beneath the surface, because we were forced to with all of the essays and timed writes we had to do. I got twos and threes on almost all my essays. Many students were less than content, so they embraced a growth mindset. Slowly, but surely we began to improve on my essays. On this last essay, I managed to get a 5. I really feel like many students analyses and critical thinking skills improved tremendously because of the rigor of this class, and I am happy to say that I can look back on my very first essay and be disgusted, because it puts into perspective just how far I've come.

YAY! TIME MANAGEMENT!
Put off my homework until 12 a.m. and then get a healthy amount of sleep and a lot of headaches. Near the beginning of the year, we were shown videos and most of them told us not to procrastinate, if you don't remember any of this I would recommend you see a doctor in case you have received permanent brain damage at some point in your life. Most people should have improved with time management, but it is hard to abandon bad habits. If you didn't improve at least you didn't go backwards. I 100% guarantee you that I didn't regress. OK 99.9%. I didn't do this at 3 in the morning. It was 3:30. Time management was improved for most people, except a few.
BOO! EFFORT?
Mrs. House, why did you make the 5 assignments if we had to try? I don't know how many of you guys went all try-hard on this but I sure didn't. My group seems smart and look like they put effort so I assume they put in more than 1 or 2, but I don't know what effort is. Time management also played a role within this as when rushed some 5 activities couldn't be finished. I can try, using google. Best part is that some research is required, and you can check your friends search history.

The year has been rough for some, easy for others. Has it been too hard? Don't jump off yet, give it another year before you make a decision that big. With the next year just a summer away, we all can agree we have one summer to prepare for the living hell we are about to experience. In order to survive, we must struggle and help each other, let your friends copy your homework so they can live another week, unless it is a summative. Just imagine all summatives as being stranded in a snowstorm at the top of a mountain and you must eat your friends alive to survive. When some make it out, go back to no human left behind(social justice warriors can't get me there, its "politically correct") because the smart should help the dumb. Why? Well first off, you can't be smart unless someone is dumb by comparison, and also they probably want a decent future. If you do not help anyone, I hope you get eaten by your friends during finals season. Congratulations! I just wasted your time, no refunds.

Over the course of the year, many books have been provided, by the school, for us to suffer through. The texts were not overwhelmingly large, and sometimes small, but held deeper meanings beneath the surface, which we were forced to dive into. A large amount of vocabulary was presented, and the tests for those were relatively easy. The amount of vocabulary varies, but most of us should be able to agree that we know a significant amount of new words. There were the themes, symbols, and motifs which we saw allowed writers to create masterpieces behind the plot, and also revealing their perspectives. In all honesty, literary terms will only be semi-useful as they are primarily for English classes and not much else.
