The legend of Pele's Curse has beliefs that people made the curse up to stop people from stealing rocks from the volcano, but you shouldn't take from Hawaii's land anyways.
I think that the author thinks that stealing rocks from Hawaii is bad and people shouldn't take from the land and just leave it be.
