G. What form does your feedback typically take? Do you leave written, typed, or audio comments? What types of technology tools do you currently use to give feedback? Are there any tips in this chapter that you are excited to try?

"After Hours feedback" kind of stuck in my craw a bit. I do think that I provide feedback when I am instructing and canvassing the room during practice. However, I really liked the idea of doing stations and having the teacher station be to provide feedback based on the work at the other stations where students recieved instruction and hopefully displayed understanding.

COMMENTS FOR SCOTT FROM MIKE MEISE

Scott, these are all excellent points! As a fellow math person (not sure if it is specific to our department or not, but just my observation), it seems like most of us do not use tech for feedback, but rather verbal comments and written comments on the paper itself. Personally, I am excited to try out some of the features that Google offers that we learned about (and that I previously did not know existed). I definitely see it helping with the times when we end up writing the same thing on 20 students' papers...

Technology is great if it enhances the lesson. When we as teachers are taught new ways to use technology, we sometimes are expected to use it by coaches and observers... even if it doesn't help what you are trying to accomplish in your plans.

I try to embed tech into my instruction but tend to shy away from most tech that I have to spend class time to teach to the students - the class should be focused on the content and not the delivery system.

In the end, I think that Mike's right: tech tools work better with some content areas more than others.

At our 5 week mark, and sometimes sooner, I print a sheet that has all their assigments and grades for the quarter thus far. This helps stimulate interest in feedback because it's like handing back a quiz....everyone gets it at once and is asking each other their grade. It also gives them the reality check that triggers more intrinsic motivation. I agree with the feedback at a station on skills.

I agree that feedback can be as simple as a smile or a nod. Sometimes, we complicate things that don't need to be complicated. When a student answers a question correctly to keep the conversation going a high five is sometimes enough.
