For a youth worker, young people are her mission. She take care of their young people like their own litter, helping them grow and gain strength. She let them make mistakes, but let them know that they are always kept in their nest. I believe that in youth work, we should engage with youth where they are and learn about their current experiences (so that, in the end, we can empower them in the areas where it matters the most).

Sometimes, this even means getting to know the latest memes, which might seem trivial and silly.

If you don't fully understand this picture, that's perfectly okay— it took me an entire week at camp to grasp it. (And if you are interested, I can try to explain it to you :D )

However, being able to connect with the youth through this shared experience meant a lot to me and to them as well. - Virág

In this photo we can see food that was made by the participants in a youth workshop. Being in the kitchen and preparing food as a group requires communication and planning. Also preparing food as itself is an important skill that young people need to practice.

It feels like a labyrinth — both when I think about the work itself and about my professional identity. I never really know where I am; sometimes I’m close to the center, then suddenly it leads me in another direction. And sometimes I don’t even realize I’m near the goal until I understand or experience something. To me, it’s a mysterious thing. Just like the labyrinth in the picture, which we built together a year ago.

Youth work is about involving youth in society issues, because their opinion are matters too. It's also makes young people to think and care about each other, to make even chances in education, community etc.

In the picture we can see that the whole picture is made up of puzzle pieces, which are put together by different people. For me, this is what youth work means. Community, creativity, diversity and problem-solving skills. In order to successfully solve a given problem, you need a good team, honest communication and cooperation.

I also chose a photo of a table with food and snacks. This was taken during a youth values conference, in which my youth work course participated.

I took this photo on my way to teach a workshop for young students with the association where I’m doing my traineeship. I had to wake up at around 4:30 am to get there on time, so I was really tired and grumpy (I am NOT a morning person). But when we arrived and I saw how enthusiastic the students were about the games and how much fun they were having, I felt it was worth it.

I think that in youth work there will always be parts that are challenging (far more than in my story), but seeing that people enjoyed themselves and knowing we could help in some way makes it all worthwhile.✨
