         <description><![CDATA[<p>I chose the healthcare industry for this assignment because of its ability to directly affect human lives. Additionally, as a future physician, I wanted to get more familiar with how AI is affecting my future field. The healthcare field is constantly changing and adding artificial intelligence could be one of the largest changes in recent years. Furthermore I chose healthcare due to&nbsp; my desire to understand how technology can affect the quality of life along with improving health results, and changing the&nbsp; way physicians treat patients.&nbsp; AI has the potential to analyze large amounts of data and make precise decisions which gives potential to a future where AI could possibly replace physicians in some sectors of healthcare and data processing.The lack of a physician could also mean that healthcare could be more accessible and cheaper at least for more straightforward cases. Additionally, the increased data processing could result in quicker treatment plan formation.</p><p>On my Padlet wall, I start with an introduction to the healthcare industry by&nbsp; explaining its challenges and showing the need for technological advancements. Then I will go through three specific uses of AI in healthcare. Specifically I will mention technology in personalized medicine through Butterfly IQ , patient monitoring through Plaud Notepin and AI in drug discovery through the Insillico Medicine example . For each example I will talk about the technology involved along with its benefits, and the challenges it may cause within the healthcare <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="http://systems.In">systems.In</a> addition to these examples, I will address future trends in AI in healthcare, focusing on emerging technologies and ethical considerations such as privacy and data security. I will also explore the broader societal impacts, including how AI affects healthcare professionals, patients, and the economy.</p><p>Personally, AI in healthcare is significant to me because it has the potential to dramatically improve diagnostic accuracy and treatment personalization and lead to better healthcare outcomes. I have often seen how long it takes for my family members to receive treatments and treatment plans, so I am interested in how AI could reduce those times. Furthermore I want to learn how AI is affecting my future work sector. As a physician. At the same time I am concerned by the ethical challenges like privacy concerns and biases in AI systems. Medical data is very sensitive so it will be interesting how the data will be protected.</p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>AI in personalized medicine through devices like Butterfly IQ uses patient data like&nbsp; medical history&nbsp; to create personalized treatments for the patient.Butterfly Network’s Butterfly iQ device is an ultrasound machine&nbsp; that uses AI to help healthcare professionals diagnosing medical conditions with more precision. The device works by taking real time images of the body’s internals and then AI algorithms analyze these images to provide insights tailored to individual patients. The AI technology utilized in the Butterfly iQ includes deep learning and computer vision to interpret ultrasound images. The system helps doctors detect abnormalities in the body like tumors and gives personalized insights based on the patient's health profile. The device is connected to a smartphone app, which provides real time feedback and. This makes diagnostic imaging more accessible mainly for underserved communities and reduces the need for specialized equipment along with allowing physicians to make quicker decisions.A key challenge of this technology is the availability of high quality and comprehensive patient data to allow the AI to form effective treatment options. Additionally there are ethical concerns around the patient data privacy that is being inputted to the AI and the risk of personalized treatments causing unequal treatment plans.&nbsp;</p><p>Personal Insights: I find Butterfly IQ to be very cool since it makes advanced diagnostics like internal imaging much more accessible. I find it very useful for underserved communities that can not afford access to the advanced healthcare tools they need.With this said,&nbsp; I am still concerned by how the patient data will truly be protected&nbsp;</p>]]></description>

         <title>Healthcare - AI in Patient Monitoring

         <description><![CDATA[<p>AI patient monitoring like the Plaud Notepin is a&nbsp; wearable device that has sensors to continuously track the patient vital like their&nbsp; heart rate and blood pressure. It is then able to notify the patient’s healthcare providers if there are any abnormal patterns, thus allowing early intervention.This device&nbsp; uses machine learning, and predictive analytics to collect and analyze the data from wearable devices and then be able to&nbsp; predict health issues before they become more serious. If abnormal vitals are detected, the pin will notify healthcare providers immediately. Having AI in the pin monitoring improves patient health outcomes since there would be&nbsp; by enabling proactive care. It allows for continuous monitoring and intervention which could reduce chances for going to a hospital due to a chronic disease developing. Some challenges that come with this technology include the need for constant and accurate data. It causes a dependence on these wearable devices which may not always work. The Plaud NotePin has shown great success in managing hypertension by finding&nbsp; abnormal blood pressure trends and notifying both the patient and their physician resulting in interventions that prevent further complications.</p><p>Personal Insights: I am excited by this technology because it shows AI’s ability to improve preventive care. I like the idea of continuous health monitoring since it allows healthcare providers to help treat possible health issues before they arise. However, I am concerned by how affordable and available these advanced technologies are going to be, especially in underserved communities.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Healthcare - AI in Drug Discovery

         <description><![CDATA[<p>AI is currently being used more&nbsp; often to help drug discovery by identifying possible effective drug candidates. The traditional way of drug discovery often requires long analysis and takes too much money along with resources. An example of this is Insilico Medicine which uses artificial intelligence to find drug candidates.&nbsp; Insilico Medicine has used AI to drastically cut down the time it takes for the process. Recently, the company’s AI system was able to identify a candidate for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in just 46 days. This was done using AI that used machine learning and deep learning algorithms to analyze biological data like genetic information, protein structures, and chemical properties of compounds, to predict which molecules might be effective in treating diseases. This quickened process allows pharmaceutical companies to bring new medications to market much faster and possibly bring more effective treatments for rare diseases like IPF that do not really get research funding. With AI, the algorithms can learn to analyze large amounts of biological and chemical data to quickly and efficiently predict how different drugs might affect a disease. This would significantly reduce the time and cost involved in the drug discovery process. One main&nbsp; challenge is the complexity of biological systems&nbsp; which would make&nbsp; it difficult for the AI to&nbsp; predict how the drug will behave in a human. Additionally, the need for large, high-quality datasets for training AI models is a barrier. Regulatory approval and ethical concerns around the use of AI in medical trials also present challenges.</p><p>Personal Insights: I find the use of AI in drug discovery interesting because it has the potential to completely change how new medicines are developed and make it possible to find cures for diseases much faster. It made the process for drug discovery so much quicker as seen through the Insilico Medicine example. While the technology has a lot of potential, the main unpredictability of how a drug will interact with the human body no matter how much data is used remains a challenge. At the same time, AI’s potential to save lives through faster and more efficient drug discovery is still very exciting.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Future Trends and Ethical Considerations</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The future of AI in healthcare can bring large advancements that will significantly change many aspects of &nbsp; the industry. One main trend is the use of AI predictive analytics for early diagnosis and treatment recommendations. Machine learning algorithms are becoming very good at analyzing data and can be applied to quickly analyze a patient’s complete medical history and lifestyle factors. This will allow very personalized healthcare treatments. Additionally, AI can be used in robotics to play a role in surgery and patient care. Since&nbsp; robotic systems are becoming more precise and capable of performing small procedures, AI can assist to make these systems more accurate and effective. This could significantly reduce the cost for certain procedures. Additionally, natural language processing is a new and&nbsp; exciting development which will improve the AI systems ability to directly communicate with healthcare providers and patients. This would make the&nbsp; interactions with AI smoother, quicker and feel more like human. Furthermore, AI will continue to be used in telemedicine to allow for remote patient diagnostics when applicable. The rise of popularity in wearable technologies and AI health monitors will allow continuous health tracking will become the norm and cause car to move from more reactive to preventive.</p><p>With these improvements, the increased use of AI brings important ethical questions. One main concern is data privacy. Since AI relies on large amounts of personal data to function accurately, we need to make sure that this data is protected from breaches. There is also the issue of bias in AI algorithms. If the data that the AI is trained on is&nbsp; not diverse or representative, the AI could accidentally preserve&nbsp; healthcare disparities which&nbsp; affect underrepresented members of the population. Finally,&nbsp; patient consent and the transparency of the use of AI in&nbsp; decision making is important to maintaining trust in the AI systems.</p><p>Personally, I believe that while AI has a lot of potential to improve healthcare however the ethical issues around data privacy and fairness are very serious. They need to be considered very carefully to make sure that AI improves&nbsp; the healthcare system equally and responsibly. It is still very interesting AI’s ability to be able to change the healthcare field especially with fast data processing. I am excited to experience the future of AI in healthcare.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The increased use of AI in healthcare has many&nbsp; societal implications that are beyond the clinics. One of the main effects of AI on society is its effect on employment. While AI technologies help make healthcare processes more efficient and quicker, there is a concern these technologies could possibly replace previously human base jobs like in diagnostic support. Healthcare workers may also face struggle with&nbsp; the quickly changing&nbsp; AI tools and thus cause there to be often retraining which takes time. At the same time, AI has the ability to create new job opportunities mainly in&nbsp; tech and AI development as well as those who manage and ensure accuracy of the AI systems. It has its pros and cons.</p><p>Privacy is another concern. Since the use of AI often requires&nbsp; large amounts of sensitive personal data like&nbsp; genetic information and&nbsp; medical histories, protecting this data is important. Breaches could remove patient trust in healthcare systems. We need to find a balance between using AI tools to help and protecting personal information to ensure patient trust.Equity is another main issue. AI has a strong potential&nbsp; to improve healthcare access especially&nbsp; in areas where medical help is hard to get. However, there is the&nbsp; risk of AI perpetuating previously existing biases. If AI systems are not trained on diverse datasets, they may not work effectively with these underserved populations and accidently reinforce these inequalities. Also, access to these new AI technologies may be rare in low-income areas, thus causing inequality and less advanced treatments.</p><p>Personally, while I’m excited about the possibility of AI to improve healthcare, these societal impacts make me worried. We need to be able to ensure that&nbsp; AI benefits all individuals regardless of their background&nbsp; equally while also protecting privacy. We also need to ensure that AI does not get to the point where it takes away jobs. Finally we need to have ethics thought of with every step in AI to ensure safe and effective usage.</p><p><br></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>This research process has been  very useful but had some challenges. I learned a lot about the role AI plays in the healthcare industry. This was important to me as a future physician who is interested in technology. I wanted to learn about how AI might affect my future. One of the main challenges I faced when working was going through the&nbsp; large amount of information available online and deciding which sources are credible. I tried to solve this issue by mainly focusing on and using academic journals and industry reports written by trusted/unbiased authors. Overall, AI has a lot of potential within healthcare.</p><p>Personally,&nbsp; this research has increased my understanding of AI’s power to change healthcare mainly&nbsp; by improving efficiency and outcomes. However, it also helped me realize the&nbsp; ethical concerns of using AI including privacy, bias, and equity. These need to be addressed to ensure AI is truly benefiting society without having many drawbacks.&nbsp;</p>]]></description>
