There used to be more direction about what is/is not allowable for schools. While I like the current flexibility, sometimes the ambiguity can be hard - especially because we need to then submit a redcap request with questions which slows down the process.

One year goals are realistic. 5 year goals would be good to ask, but may be hard to track especially if we don't fund a district year after year.

Outdoor gardens and farm to school continue to be tricky - esp with the short growing season that ends just about the time schools start the school year. The two year process now gives us flexibility with these 2 activities.

Many schools have policies about healthy fundraising and classroom celebrations ... only so many of them follow their own policies - how can SHIP support this better?

Time for lunch policies...even when a policy calls it out and if time is scheduled - many schools have a 25–30-minute scheduled lunch - by the time kids go from the classroom to bathroom to lunchroom / through lunch line, many of them have 10-15 seated minutes. Unfortunately many schools do not have the staffing or space capacity to have flexibility in these schedules. Thinking of how SHIP can support efforts to get through processes faster under school constraints.

I like how you are calling out specifics - so much is left unclear in SHIP 5. I think it is important to expand upon current grouped together strategies. New staff would see what is in the implementation guide and have no idea all of the amazing work that could be done!

Under food security - being sure we call out some potential areas of work - weekend backpack programs, care closets/school food shelves, Share tables, etc.

Sometimes I think we "overreach" in our work with schools and SHIP can come across as preachy. We need to support, not dictate to the schools. We also need to listen to where they are at, what their needs are and then support those needs.
