In 2012 Congress came together to create a way to keep children protected. The Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) was created to keep children away from those sites. Schools are responsible to filter out all obscure sites if they are accepting federal funds. All graphic images that are obscene, are child pornography or material considered harmful to minors must be blocked.

CIPA in Schools
Faculty's that are subject to the CIPA must address safety and security issues to minors about using chat rooms, electronic mail or any other way of internet communication. All internet communication and online activity are to be monitored according to the policy.

In this lesson you would give students different examples of good and bad netiquette. After they are given the examples ask the children to come up with what they would do if they saw that example happening on the internet. Students can work together in small groups and create scenarios to better prepare them for future internet use.

Using a meme maker have kids pair up or work alone. After learning about digital law have the students search for a picture that relates to the topic. Then, have them come up with a creative, short phrase reflecting examples of digital laws. Allow students to be creative and have them take the lead to ensure understanding.
