It also describes a nice landscape that I wouldn't mind personally. The house isn't important here; the setting is.

I tried to show by my expression that I had played no part in her past."

This quote shows how Nick is not like the people around him. This shows to be a good thing because those around him have poor morals and standards. This in turn helps one like Nick's character more.

It goes on to say that she could have lied to win a golf tournament. This also means that she is a femme fatal.

"I thought you didn't if you'll pardon my-you see, I carry on a little business on the side, a sort of side line, you understand."

This quote shows Gatsby's desire to be with Daisy so much that he almost told Nick the truths about his whole life. He is so thankful to Nick that he is willing to risk it all and tell someone he barely knows one of his biggest secrets. This also shows however that Nick is very trustworthy, especially when he cuts off Gatsby and turns down the offer.

"'Go ahead, answered Daisy Genially, 'and if you want to take down addresses here's my little gold pencil.'"

The quote stated here is almost funny, because most if not all readers at this point despise Tom, so seeing his wife Daisy stand up to him is satisfying.

"'How do you like mother's friends?' Daisy turned around so that she faced Gatsby. 'Do you think they're pretty?' 'Where's Daddy?'"

This quote is well written because even though it is a short dialogue it conveys a couple things. The first is that it shows Daisy is trying to get her daughter and Gatsby to know each other, but the second is that the child doesn't care for Gatsby or Nick, and only wants her own dad. This in turn takes her completely out of the question for the rest of the book, as it is implied that the daughter would stick by Tom no matter what happened.

"I wasn't worth a decent stroke of work, but it was more than that-I didn't want to leave Gatsby."

In this quote, it is evident that Nick is quite worried for Gatsby's safety and this in turn foreshadows Gatsby's murder. This later makes Nick feel even more guilty that he left Gatsby to go to work, even though he had missed a couple of his trains.

"But, as they drew back the sheet and looked at Gatsby with unmoved eyes, his protest continued in my brain:"

This line shows that Nick is possibly going mad over guilt for Gatsby's death. He is also angry because it seems that no one else cared for him, not even Daisy. Nick becomes desperate to find people who care about Gatsby's death, and it becomes an obsession, making the reader like Nick's character even more.
