At the age of 11, it all started with the fun of buying a keyboard with my savings. I had zero knowledge of music back then. I learned on my own to play some Tamil songs on the keyboard that I bought with the help of YouTube of course. I used to watch the tutorial of each songs, jot down the notes on a notebook. I practice by listening to the original song to get the rhythm and melody while referring to the notes that I jot down. Then, I stopped!

Even if I stopped playing on my own back then, I was always eager to learn by getting myself a tutor to teach me to play. Years went by, at the age of 18, I joined music center in my hometown to learn piano. That's when I started to learn the theory and practical part with a proper guide. In two years time, I managed to finish until grade 5 as I wanted to apply for music course in Uni to explore and to learn more about music. I practiced as much as I can to pass the interview and then I got into UPM for the course I wanted, Bachelor of Music.

I thought things would start from scratch. But this level was higher than I expected. I had no musicianship skills or more than a grade 6 theory to cope up with. I had to change my major from piano to percussion as I was just a beginner in piano. This is where it all began to getting to know more about music, learning instruments, getting more exposure in my musical journey.

I learned percussion in my university for first time. I was just a beginner. With the help of my lecturer I learned how to play marimba, snare drum and more instruments. We have to perform a few pieces with our major instruments for exams. Whenever I play my instruments, there's always nervousness as I have to perform. I always had to practice most of the time as to get better at it. I also learned to collaborate with my friends who play piano to perform even better in this.

I think everyone will have fear to perform in front of many people surrounded by you just to watch you perform. LTR was a great platform for music students to overcome our stage fright and to gain confidence while performing on a stage. Whenever I need to perform, I really had to start at least 4 weeks earlier to make sure I give my best and to make sure make no mistakes while performing on stage. Rehearsing over and over just makes me to play better in each pieces.

It was my very first experience in university to take part in orchestra and choir. Through this I learned a lot. Taking part in choir and orchestra to come out with a perfect structure needs lots of practice and rehearsals. With this experience later on, I took part in an Indian concert that was held in Dewan Besar UPM to do a live performance. It was a duet performance of violin played by me and piano by my friend. This performance was how it was with choir and orchestra it takes a lot of rehearsals to give out the best performance.

Being in this journey since my childhood as whenever we have a family gathering or while having fun with friends. Unplanned musical singing, playing and clapping turns out to be a memorable one always. It always gives energy and emotion with a unity through music as a group. The most memorable one I ever have is when me and my friends set a campfire like setting on the beach and without any planning we played the musical game between us by forming into 2 groups. With just a guitar, using a water bottle to replace shakers, our hands and our vocal we played a game named called "antakshri".
