The Colonists had clubs and sticks. These may not seem like deadly weapons but when there is a mob attacking you with them it can be. Captain Thomas Preston arrived and ordered the soldiers not to shoot. He was scared that one of his soldiers may be murdered. The fight escalated and the angry colonists were yelling at the soldiers “fire.” One of the soldiers confused Caption Preston for one of the colonists and started firing. Once one of the soldiers started firing the other six did as well.

Some people may say that the colonists were at fault because they started the fight and they were throwing clubs, sticks, and snowballs at the soldiers. One of them was John Adams. John Adams defended the British because he wanted them to have a fair trial. The death penalty was at stake for them. He mentions that the confusion that night was rampant. Adams argued that it was easy for confusion to happen that night and the British were proved innocent.

The Stamp act was the first tax directly on the Colonist to the British Parliament. The tax came when the British were in severe debt after fighting seven years of war. This act taxed every piece of paper they used. They were looking at the colonists as profit and thought they could easily take advantage of them. The colonists argued that the act was unconstitutional but the British parliament still proposed this act in 1765, and they appealed in 1766.
