My favorite theme would be alienation. All of the characters are divided by their class, therefore alienating them, yet the characters also alienate themselves through the pursuit of wealth or love. The alienation characters face also leads into how they form bonds with each other, like the case and Nick and Gatsby.

I'd argue the most relevant theme from the Great Gatsby is identity. Though the other themes present in the novel are still very present today, identity is something all people experience, albeit in various different ways. Gatsby masks his former self, yet remains a very elusive character. I think this reflects how people in positions of power present themselves vastly different than how once were or currently are.

I think Fitzgerald would argue that identity is the most important because it is something that Gatsby struggled with. Throughout the book he focused on his dream and like Nick said "paid a high price for living too long with a single dream". He was more into getting Daisy and finding her instead of getting to know himself.

My favorite theme from The Great Gatsby is the one about identity. The novel starts off by talking about morals and core values. The narrator having been taught those things when he was very young. Then the reader gets introduced to characters who show an obvious disconnect or difference in those same morals.

I think all these themes are relevant today but identity would probably be the most relevant. This is because everyones identity is the core of their being. It determines who you are and what you want to be. It also determines what you want to be known for and see as.
