Tiana, from Princess and the Frog, has a southern accent. Tiana's southern cajun drawl was likely trying to show that she was from New Orleans, Louisiana, and that's why she had this specific accent. The film was set in Louisiana, too, which explains why she probably had this accent. Young girls from this area typically talk with an accent like the one of Tiana, so they were definitely trying to show her culture through her accent.

This is a discussion I wrote on Varieties of English, and I think it’s a fun one! I might use it for my future classroom.
