In the story Fly away home, we learned about a boy and his father who are living in an airport because they are homeless. Throughout the story, we see them eating in the cafeteria, cleaning up in the bathroom, and sleeping in the airport terminals. We see the father go to his job as a janitor in order to try and afford an apartment. We also see the boy with his friends and trying to earn extra cash towards the apartment by doing weird jobs. In the text it says, “We stay among the crowds,” which shows us that the airports is also crowded. The story includes a metaphor of a bird who is finally able to escape the airport, just like the boy and his dad hope to do.

According to the text it says,“My dad and I live in an airport.” The airport includes a cafeteria , restrooms, and various terminals. It is crowded with people during most of the day.

The setting in Out of my heart mainly takes place in a forest-like camp called Camp Green Glades. According to the text it says, “ Tall maple trees lined the paths, and I could see a forest of pine just beyond.” The forest includes a lake where they boat, zip lines that go through the forest, and a lot of hiking trails. The forest is crowded with campers and counselors doing activities. We know the forest has skunk’s because melody and other campers encounter one on a hike.

According to the text it says, “ That’s what dad’s a cappella group did to win (for the first time ever) the Winter Sing-Off! Woo-hoo!” Then Piper's father gets a transfer from a fancy private school, Chumply prep to be a music teacher. It was hard for Piper to fit in but then she met some friends Kwame, Siraj, Emily, and Tim. Then the principal told the school that they would pick one student for the “Excelsior Award” and all the students were working hard to impress the school so they could win.

The setting in The Island Of Dr Libris takes place in a lakeside cabin in the middle of nowhere. At the lake there is an island in the middle of the lake that has a dome over it. According to the text it says, “ Billy stood and took in the towering row of shaggy evergreen trees ringing the island”. ( Grabenstein 4).Even though it was the middle of a hot summer day, the place seemed dark and mysterious. In the cabin they have a library where there are many couches, chairs, and lots of bookcases. Billy spends most of his time in this library reading books and the scenes in the book he is reading comes to life on the island. That is the setting in The Island Of Dr Libris.

I liked the book The Island Of Dr Libris because of how detailed it was in describing things. For example in the text it says, “ Billy flopped onto his bed and stared at the ceiling. There was one knot in the pine planks that sort of looked like an angry ogres face”(Grabenstein, 191). I also liked how the island was so magical and that the characters enter mixed from all the stories. I would recommend this book to 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. I would rate this book 4.5/5 stars

The setting in the beginning of The War That Saved My Life is located in England in 1939. I know this because according to the text it says, “ This story I’m telling starts out four years ago, at the begging of summer of 1939” (Bradley 3 ). For the beginning of the story they live in a flat 1 story house above a pub where their mom works. In the middle and end of the book they move to Kent by a train to evacuate England because of the war. They live with a single women in a regular farm house and they also live near a lot of shops. That is the setting in The War That Saved My Life.

I liked the main character because she was so kind and helpful to her family even if she was mistreated. I know that she is helpful to her family because, according to the text it says, “ She laughed. And if there’s any left, you can throw it out the window. I didn’t say anything”(Bradley 2). Ada I has a injury called club foot and her mother is embarrassed by it so she isn’t allowed to go outside or do anything a normal kid would do. The mom is only kind to the brother Jamie because he is normal so he can do things like play outside and go to school.

I liked the book The War That Saved My Life. I liked the book because of how realistic it was with the unfairness with 2 children where a parent is nicer and treats 1 child better than the other. I also liked this book because I can relate to getting in trouble by my mom for not doing anything that serious. I can support try statement because, according to the text it says, “ Ada! Get back from that window! Mam’s arm, grabbing mine”(Bradley 1). Another thing that I enjoyed about this book is how Ada got treated so much better when she moved to a different country and to a different home because of the war. I would recommend this book to 5th and 6th graders. I would rate this book a 4/5 stars.
