When choosing a topic for this project, I knew that I wanted to choose something that dealt with conservation efforts here in the US. And, after thinking through all our presidents, I wanted to recognize the impact of President Theodore Roosevelt, the “conservation President”, in the development of today’s national parks. Our national parks are not only popular tourist attractions designed to educate the public about nature (which, arguably, is one of the most important components of protecting the environment), but they are also great swaths of land where crucial scientific research and observation is conducted. By studying the areas of land encompassed in national parks, we can learn more about not only how our environment works, but also how we, as humans, either positively or negatively impact our surroundings. These parks also help us create solutions on how to fix those problems. All the people, organizations, and events I chose for my project revolve around the creation and strengthening of our national parks, which play important roles is preserving some of the most beautiful areas of nature in our country.
