William Penn was born on October 24, 1644. This is significant because this is the beginning of someone who will go on and create a popular place that gave homes to many people. He will also become someone who helped quakers and helped them to travel to America, and come to Pennsylvania.

Penn's Charter Given By King Charles II

Penn's charter was given to him by King Charles II on March 4, 1681. When Penn was given the charter he got lots of land in the land of America. King Charles gave land to Penn to pay back the debt from his father who had recently passed away, and he did not have the money to pay them back, so he gifted William Penn land. Penn was then asked to name and identify the land with a name in which he chose Pennsylvania. This piece of Pennsylvania's history matters because this was the start of the land and the way that all of the state became a place. This is the way that the land was named, and how what we know it as today. It is also important because Penn was granted to be able to establish and make laws and rules to abide by in the land.

Penn's Arrival

William Penn arrived in Pennsylvania on October 28, 1682. Penn wanted to welcome anyone into this new land. He sent out pamphlets and letter telling people about the new land in America, and he welcomed anyone to come and rent or buy land. This is important because it started the first all religious place where everyone could believe in different things and still live together on the same land. This started more freedom in a colony or new piece of land.

Penn's Treaty of Friendship

The Treaty of Friendship or otherwise known as the Treaty of Shackamaxon was signed in 1682 when Penn arrived in Pennsylvania. Penn agree to sign a treaty in which the Indians and Quakers' made a friendship. This moment in history is important because this treaty helped to formalize the purchase of the land in Pennsylvania. This is also significant because this help peace in the land with the Indians for many years.

The Charter of Privileges

On October 28, 1701 The Charter of Privileges was signed. The Charter recognized the authority of the ruler and parliament over the colony. This agreement also created a local governing body that would tell people the law and the other rules of the land. This piece of history matters because it established the rules and how the government would be run the the new colony of Pennsylvania. It would also mark a new way of living since Quakers would have more freedom in the new land.

William Penn's Death

William Penn passed away on August 10, 1718. He suffered of a stroke and slowly lost his memory causing him to eventually die. Penn died at age 73, and was very poor when he passed. William Penn will be remembered for the creation of a religion free colony in which people can believe in anything. He is credited for the making of the state Pennsylvania which stands for "Penn's Woods" named after himself and as a remembrance of his father.
