You can tell that Romeo loves Juliet because he says that she makes torches burn brighter and the stars glow brighter. He holds her really highly in his mind. To him she is a perfect angel. He worships her.

In the beginning love is shown through Romeo’s unreturned feelings for a woman who has pledged herself to Diana. And because of this love all he feels is despair and depression, love is an overall controlling force and it dictates the actions of the play. That love isn’t tender, that it is rough, hurtful and cruel. Like a poison, it infests your bloodstream and slowly kills you. It’s a curse. Like a coin, one side it’s splendid and amazing but on the other side it’s painful and torturous. When Romeo and Juliet are together their love is perfect and something held so dearly and it’s simply beautiful but when they are a part it’s a burning feeling that destroys them and makes them desperate and pathetic.
-Nikita
