The term Dreaming refers to the time when the land and the people were created by the ancestor spirits. They create the rivers, hills, rocks, and more, forming everything in the natural world. According to the local Aboriginal people, Uluru’s numerous caves and fissures were all formed due to ancestral beings actions in the Dreaming. Still today, ceremonies are held in the sacred caves lining the base. For many, Uluru and its neighbour Kata Tjuta aren’t just rocks, they are living, breathing, cultural landscapes that are incredibly sacred. Known as being the resting place for the past ancient spirits of the region.

The story of Murray Cod "Ponde" The river creator tells how Australia's Murray-Darling River basin was created and how its species got there. The story says a giant ancestral cod, lived in a very straight Murray river. Ngurunderi, was looking for his two wives when he saw Ponde and decided to hunt him. Ponde raced away thrashing his tail which formed bends and billabongs. Ngurunderi caught up, speared him, then threw the excess flesh back into the Lake. These became the other species (golden perch and bony bream). Ngurunderi pushed the bony carcass back into the water and told Ponde to stay alive. This created the Murray Cod.
