Self Initiated Project

Filip's Freaky Friday is a weekly creative showcase where I share the design work and experiments I've been exploring throughout the week. It’s an ongoing series where I challenge myself to step out of the usual design routine and try something new, bold, or even a bit unusual. From real-world projects to self-initiated ones, including typography, packaging, logo design, and beyond, this series allows me to experiment with ideas, styles, and techniques.

The goal is not only to push the boundaries of my own creativity but also to engage with the design community, offering a glimpse into my process and the results of my work. Whether it’s playful, unconventional, or simply a reflection of what’s been inspiring me lately, Filip's Freaky Friday is my way of keeping things fresh, fun, and creatively fulfilling.

Tracey Emin

I have been looking at Tracey Emin's work. I am interested in using type in my project to explore the power of words. Emin's autobiographical approach to her work has the ability to project strong emotions that the viewer can recognise and sometimes relate to. In this piece, Psyco Slut there is a juxtaposition of the tradition quilt with its association with traditional female stereotypes and the appliqued text. The words are confrontational, sometimes explicit and project an image of womanhood far removed from the expectations of traditional women/ wives/ homemakers. The cowboy boots giving the idea of spread legs on the bed with the spilling of semen - creates a chaotic centre to the composition. My interest lies in the artists ability to carry the emotional impact of the words - which convey her personal experience of abortion, difficult teenage years and child abuse.
